I was watching preheat alpha footage, looks like two core fire mage abilities bit the dust?
But why?

People asked for simplify fire “monkey paw curls”
They answered this in their blog post. Auto crits for heating up were too easy to gain which resulted in balancing issues. Going another direction.
Then my mage is getting shelved. I love tww fire mage
Im just gonna consider fire as not existent anymore.
That spec doesn’t exist it’s always been an illusion.
Fire mage? Never existed.
No cdr on combustion, no scorch of p flames? They also removed skb? It’s over, goodbye. Im literally never playing fire again if it stays like this, probably mage in general looking at what’s happening, i might even just outright skip midnight.
cdr on cooldowns is a plague to the game. It’s way healthier and more pleasant to have a cooldown with a SET cooldown, no more desyncing from trinkets. Also Fire is back to being a real burst spec again after so long of being a stinky uptime spec.
Thanks for your contribution, enjoy this garbage spec.
By the way, they didn’t remove it because they thought it was bad gameplay most likely, they removed it because of CD tracking being essentially gone.
Same for skb, they basically did the one thing I was worried they were gonna do, and instead of integrating addon functions into the base game, they just simplified everything to a point where it’s not even fun or interesting.
But hey, enjoy, be my guest.
Isn’t that the truth. “Your frostbolt converts to Glacial Spike!” Terrible. Terrible. Terrible. Do they not trust us when to use Glacial Spike? Removing Blastwave and just baking it into blink, like why? Removing fire blast so no more spell reflects.
It is just, I get the population is aging, I myself started in High School playing this game, but please… don’t insult us by simplifying the specs.
It’s actually garbage, almost every spec I looked up is worse than before.
If this is how blizzard wants to continue I won’t be here for it.
It’s very demoralizing, i don’t even wanna play current live, why bother if this is how the game will be in a few months ?
You can’t give me intricate and cool stuff for 2 expansions and then expect me to be fine with them cutting down on 70% of this.
Absolutely not
Pyroclasm is back and gets 2 charges
Bruh. Younger gen aren’t ever going to touch this game unless they do this simplification process.
It’s about getting new players interested in the game.
Simple doesn’t automatically mean unfun. Simplicity can absolutely be fun if done correctly.
I don’t care.
Pyroclasm and skb are not the same.
But this is an all around change for basically every spec. They’re all being simplified down to the bare minimum.
What an abomination
I completely disagree. Old timer wow players need to buck up and realize this game is way too unapproachable for new players. They had to do this at some point. Their playerbase is literally dying off or too busy with families now.
Games all yours, enjoy.
Also these younger players tend to be better players than the older ones, I bet the ones asking for this simplification aren’t the gen z or alpha, but the boomers with arthritis.
Enjoy this garbage, because I won’t, I actually have some self respect
My younger brother hates addons and has a hard time tracking stuff in the game. We play FFXIV and he has no issues in that game. In wow I have to constantly correct his rotation and answer questions all the time to direct him.
This update is going to be a huge success for the game. It needed to happen. More long time players are going to be inviting their friends to play and it’s going to be approachable. And those people will want to stick with the game.
We’ll see about that
I have to imagine there will be some interation here, because Fire seems…wildly simplistic. Not to say that Scorch and PF were particularly interesting (the latter just being a slower FB), but this just looks like TBC/WoTLK levels of gameplay.
Literally one active non-required talented ability in Meteor. (Really, still no @target option there?) I guess you could consider Pyroclasm “active” but why would I want to take that without Ice Floes? Nearly all defensives removed. Wtf goes on our bars?
And Flamestrike!
Flamestrike actually got one!! You can switch it in the spell book apparently. Still think Meteor deserves it though. This whole thing seems like a play at making the whole game console-friendly, so maybe that will incentivize them to give Meteor the same love.
Which we should all be advocating for by the way. More players means a better MMO experience. Less complexity means more new player retention. FFXIV has had console access forever and it works tremendously well. A lot of very good controller players in that game that play top content.
Still alpha, so they need to work out what changes are really bad. But this had to happen. People hated Legion for pruning, yet that expansion is historically beloved by basically everyone.
