Respect is a fickle thing. It has to be earned and it’s easily broken.
Blizzard developers have broken any form of trust and respect from the gamers not only from the terrible quality of the games they have developed but their general attitude towards the playerbase. They are not good people. The twitter posts they make and the general disdain they hold towards their players is not only bad form but it’s downright bad for the gaming industry as a whole. In any other industry a good chunk of them would have been written up and fired.

I know you’re being sarcastic, but raiding has been–overall–very good.
The fact that so many agreed with this tells me what’s wrong society these days.
Trust is earned. Respect should be given feely, but can be lost later.
People should always respect each other— until something happens to lose that respect.
Blizzard lost our respect after what’s been happening.

I think I’d respect a group of deveolpers more if they didn’t tell me they’d rather me not play demonology.

I think when WoW’s developers stop expressing open disdain for single, some, or all players on their Twitter accounts; and abandon “you think you do but you don’t” and “don’t you guys have phones?” for something closer to “the customer is always right” mindsets and take some action on player feedback issues that have existed for 10 or more YEARS – I’ll consider that they might have come to deserve some respect.
Currently they dont respect us, and dont deserve respect in return.

Phil is not talking about WoW btw guys lol
That is obvious, but he is talking about devs in a broad sense, and people here is talking about it’s relation to blizz devs.

why?
because they take the lazy way out and create “dlc” and charge you more?

Two way street. If they don’t respect their players, why should we respect them?
Take SWTOR for example. 7.0 was a “major” (
) expansion. A 1 hour storyline, UI changes no one wanted, chock full of bugs. People saw these changes on the SWTOR PTR, gave feedback, which got ignored.
And now BioWare wonders why people don’t respect them anymore (oh how giants fall)
Or just look at EA in general. They released Star Wars Battlefront but lock heros behind microtransactions or incredibly tedious grinds to unlock for free. “A sense of pride and accomplishment” is what they call it. That disrespect against their own player base lead to them having the most downvoted Reddit comment in history and is part of the reason they’re one of the most hated gaming companies in the world.
Game developers, like anyone else, can quickly lose the respect of their player base if they don’t respect us back.

He did say creators, he did not specify but, let it fall upon all developers as well! So he’s telling us to respect the developers behind Reforged, Diablo Immortal, Shadowlands, and not just that either! He said “Developers” not “Our Developers” which means he’s defending the likes of 2k, Ea, and all sorts.
Oh, he isn’t just talking about wow. He’s talking about wow, and everything else!
Of course, that depends on his actual words, I suspect this forum post does not display his ACTUAL words. But, for now, it’s safe to say he means all Developers!
If I’m to respect the likes of the people who killed Warcraft III, then they better give us all refunds and free copies of the REREFORGING and get some actual good people to make it! Cuz those guys who headed reforge had no idea what they were doing!
No. No one deserves respect.
Folks deserve courtesy.
If you want my respect, EARN it.

I’m all for people rightfully criticizing game devs when they need to. However, there comes a time where people just need to stop, take a step back to ensure they don’t go over that certain line because I’m pretty sure outright just insulting/harassing them isn’t going to make them want to listen to us.
That said, when or if that fails, I can very much understand the added anger.

But also, don’t harass the devs or anybody obviously.

We talking about the same Devs who just trashed another long favorite character? Same devs who spent the last two expansions butchering 20 years of lore? Same devs who seem to be doing everything in their power to sabotage their own game? Ah yes, respect.

It’s a two way street
When devs are shooting spin, deflections, partial descriptions of features that leave out the negatives, or clearly implementing anti player systems - they get blowback
Just be transparent, stop leaving out your monetization conflicts in discussions
Treat the players as valued customers instead of a consumer blob to be manipulated for more revenue based on f2p predatory designs

first they need to treat us with respect. they have repeatedly lied over the years. I STILL REMEMBER THE LIES YOU TOLD ABOUT UPPER BLACKROCK SPIRE AND WOD BLIZZARD.

Congrats, you actually answered my conundrum.
Everybody deserves respect (being treated with common courtesy).
Nobody deserves respect (anything beyond that) unless they earn it.
You can freely grant people respect in the second meaning, but it is NOT deserved, and should never be demanded.
If you notice, it’s usually people in power who demand “respect”, and what they really mean is “More respect than you lousy peons, else we’ll break you”.

People don’t really understand the crap game developers have to deal with.
- Shareholder/high ups mandating what kind of content has to be added to games and limiting creative freedom which is why you’re seeing so many game developers across the industry quitting en masse and creating their own companies.
- Unrealistic deadlines and forced buggy releases to make quarterly profit earnings.
- Covid start → Game developers forced to work from home and they have to deal with the issues compounding that. Lack of hardware (not every game dev has a high end pc), long download times to sync gbs of game content every single day if they have bad internet, and a lot of the time they don’t have the hardware to test the stuff they’re implementing. Senior staff can’t tutor junior staff.
