Tier Set Bonuses

Scarlet Enclave - Priest - Shadow 2P Bonus When your Mind Blast strikes a target afflicted with you Shadow Word: Pain Rank 8, it also deals one pulse of Shadow Word: Pain’s damage.

  • Good direction feels like Malefic Grasp which is cool, but could use work
  • Proccing off Mind Blast feels like it might as well be Mind Blast does x% more damage and increases the big threat jumps we get every Mind Blast that is already becoming an issue
  • Only proccing a tick of Shadow Word: Pain is underwhelming
  • Only real 2p comparison is to T2.5 where our 2.5 actively changes our gameplay, while this does not, and also being more impactful and engaging
  • Locks more power around specifically having Shadow Word: Pain up and not our other DoTs
  • If changed, potentially really cool 2p

Scarlet Enclave - Priest - Shadow 4P Bonus Pain and Suffering is now also triggered on all targets of your Mind Sear.

  • Good 4p for ~3 boss cleave and decent for AoE clearing
  • Not as useful for big trash packs because it takes too long to spread DoTs before mobs are dead

Scarlet Enclave - Priest - Shadow 6P Bonus Increases the duration of your Shadowfiend to 5 min.

  • Shadowfiend is too squishy and can easily die to random AoE on bosses
  • Does not change gameplay at all
  • Would have to world buff, scroll, juju, etc it EVERY pull for optimal use making it very expensive like a 6p but you need to pay to use it (Unlike a hunter pet which retails their buffs)
  • Frankly, make the 6p something else

Items

Infusion of Souls
Trinket
Equip: The Global Cooldown caused by your non-weapon based damaging spells is reduced by 0.5 seconds.

Very good for dot application, however may increase issues with Mind Flay ticks. Mind flay tick occurs at 1 second, which may cause clipping we see with current 3 second flay as well as Empowered MF (6 pc t1 bonus), But is good with the T2.5 2p where we could clip Mind Flay and get 4 Mind Spikes out of it.

Conundrum
Wand
Equip: The range of your Mind Flay, Fire Blast, and Drain Life spells is increased by 10 yards, but Mind Flay no longer slows enemies.

Highly asked for quality of life change to Mind Flay, but falls short versus wands with procs or other stats and be used situationally where the range is needed.

Tyr’s Fall

1H Mace
Equip: Dealing periodic damage has a 5% chance to grant 120 spell damage and healing for 15 sec. (Proc chance: 5%)

Equip: Increases damage and healing done by magical spells and effects by up to 169.

  • Too RNG Reliant / Proc chance is too low
  • Would possibly make us Apply Dots, wait for proc, then reapply DoTs with CDs for a very toxic play style in single target
  • Would be good for cleave boss fights

Enchant Weapon - Grand Sorcerer / Enchant Weapon - Grand Arcanist

Weapon Enchant

Permanently enchant a melee weapon so that often when striking with a spell it restores 350 to 450 mana and increases Spell Power by 70/140 for 20 sec.

  • Actively delays our DoTs and pets til we get a proc so we don’t lose out on the massive Spell power increase
  • Potentially removes a reason to bring a priest to a raid if everyone can just regenerate enough mana to sustain themselves

Lucky Doubloon

Trinket

Equip: Improves your chance to get a critical strike with all spells and attacks by 2%.

Use: Flip the Lucky Doubloon. On heads, the cooldown of Lucky Doubloon is refreshed, and your critical strike chance with all spells and attacks is increased by 5% for 15 sec, stacking up to 5 times. On tails, all stacks of Lucky Doubloon are removed. (Must be in combat.) (30 Sec Cooldown)

  • No

Mirage, Rod of Illusion

Staff

Equip: Increases damage and healing done by magical spells and effects by up to 157.

Equip: Chance on landing a damaging spell to create a Mirage on top of your target that deals arcane damage to nearby enemies for 30 sec. (Proc chance: 10%, 30s cooldown)

Use: Swap places with your Mirage. (2 Min Cooldown)

  • Potentially BiS for AoE/Cleave fights depending on enemy movement
  • Cool Staff design and hope its used

Likely Tier Set Combinations used:

  1. 4p T3, 4p T3.5 with 2p T2.5 on shoulder for Cleave fight
  2. 4p T3, 2p T3.5, 2p T2.5 with T1 6p on shoulder for Single Target

OVERALL RATING:

2p Set Bonus: 6/10 Cool but good be amazing

4p Set Bonus: 5/10 Great in the niche its for

6p Set Bonus: 1/10 Please redo completely

Straight facts, all around a reasonable critique of the new shadow set. Blizzard should hire this guy.

Agree with everything Momo said.
6p is particularly disappointing and I convinced no shadow priest main is excited by this very boring and weak idea.

Excellent overview of the issues with the phase 8 information. Very excited for phase 8 and hopefully some revamps and improvements on this set.

Thanks for the well thought out thread. I would agree the 2-piece bonus is just bleh, but the 4-piece and 6-piece are terrible. I guess I’ve never been in a dungeon/raid where I was thinking, man I wish I could refresh my AOE dots with mind sear. Also dependent on running shared pain for the most part.

We already have Homonculi, Eye of the Void and Shadowfiend. I don’t see the 6-p bonus being useful in either PVP or PVE. Seems like more of healers bonus, as they are starved for mana.

I agree that the shadow 6 pieces is terrible. Why is the ultimate tier set buffing something that is so weak, easily killable and difficult to control.

Also, whats with all of the aoe related buffs?

Homunculi, Eye of the Void, and now Shadow Fiend… If we wanted to to play a pet class we wouldn’t have rolled priest. The 6p Bonus just feels like a joke

I agree with the post.
Very underwhelming 4pc and 6pc.
Far too much reliance on rng of spell dmg increases. I dont want to wait all week for weekly reset just to be disappointed / waiting for random bonuses to happen.

Compared to other class sets that are giving insane amounts of increased percentage damage the priest set feels like a joke.

Compared to some of the power creep/power fantasy other classes are getting I agree these set bonuses are fairly underwhelming. Also we have NEVER wanted to be a pet class and making our 6p bonus (which is typically the aspirational bonus - the one that represents a significant power increase) a fragile shadowfiend is particularly disappointing.

Facts to all of this especially the 6P bonus lets just take a look at warlocks for a moment

2P: Your Shadow and Fire non-periodic critical strikes cause the target to Burn for 25% of the damage they deal over 4 sec.

4P: Your Incinerate, Shadow Bolt, and Soul Fire deal 20% more damage to targets afflicted with your Corruption.

6P: Your periodic critical strikes grant 15% spellcasting haste for 15 sec, and your Backdraft grants an additional 15% spellcasting haste.

Now those are some amazing set bonuses every single bonus gives a huge DPS increase in single target situations.

Now SPriest we get the 2P which is a nice bonus we can all agree.

Then our 4P is SUPER situational.

Then our 6P is just HORRIBLE, I don’t know how to say it better than that. the Mana we don’t need because we have no mana issues, the Pet DPS isnt amazing, and they die very easily via boss cleaves.

Not sure who came up with the 4 and 6 set bonsus but those two need to be re-done with so many other classes like warlock getting pure DPS bonuses our class wont be very viable in raid situations other then for our passive heals. I am not asking to do as much as a warlock because yes as I said we passively heal but we should not be as far behind as the new set bonuses are looking to put us.
