Phase 6 Bonus Loot Clarification

Earlier this week, we published a preview of a new twist on raid loot that’s coming to Season of Discovery in phase 6.

Just now, we updated that preview to provide a great deal more clarity on how bonus loot will work. Please find that update here:

Thankyou for your time

Can we get more insight on this challenge/bonus loot mechanic? From our perspective, it looks like there is a high potential for the system to have a toxic reaction during raids within a guild. If someone makes a mild mistake, it could cause players to begin to resent each other if that mild mistake is resulting in the team losing loot. Just an example but I hope the point I am making is making sense.

Additionally, in PUGs, can anyone just go and decide to “turn in” the bonus loot and effectively render the challenge run over? That seems like a massive potential headache. Or, what if in a PUG it is decided that you are liability and they remove you mid raid, and you have no shot at the bonus loot that you helped them earn?

Overall, I think this system doesn’t sound great. Obviously we haven’t tried it and that might change things. But, I hope that it doesn’t go live as it currently stands.

MMOs need a little friction. Modern gamers are so risk adverse because someone “might feel bad”

This mechanic is magnitudes more interesting than the MC and BWL hard modes.

How dare you insult the amazing MC hard mode!

Praise be to the giant meatball

so, everywhere you look theres an overwhelming about of negativity and pushback against this because, as we all know, and we have seen during trial of the crusader back in wrath classic, it is HORRIBLE to wipe once (or whatever times) and LOSE, nobody liked it back in wrath original, nobody liked it in classic either, we are already punished by dying, wasting our times / consumables / world buffs, gear repairs, frustration and all.
Why are you pushing something that literally nobody asked for ?
You just changed wording for more clarification, it is still bad.
Why not make aq 40 man instead this time?
Where are the new runes? New raids? New dungeons?
Why instead of adding a mythic mode with wrath style attempt numbers and MOCKING the playerbase by saying its “OPTIONAL”, you instead give us the OPPOSITE, a buff that makes us STRONGER per boss killed, so we can have MORE FUN by doing bigger numbers and faster clears?
Why are you so focused on being antagonistic against the vast majority of the playerbase instead of giving us goofy, fun, easy to do stuff ?
Who is sod being developed this way for?

If you are looking for more difficult content, retail has plenty to offer.

bro the friction already exists, you get punished by dying, losing a bunch of stuff including your time, why add more punishments on top of it? the “sweats” wont even be bothered by this as nobody dies and they clear raids within 30 minutes to 1 hour tops, this is just extra punishment to anyone that even sneezes during their raids and stands in the fire too long or has starfall up when the boss randomly mind controls people.
My point being, just like my other comment, why not add something POSITIVE for once in wow, like more movespeed or resource generation per boss killed, instead of adding mythic plus affixes that and time trials that are all just “heres more hp and dmg on things and less ways that you can mess up so youre stressed about it instead of having fun”

There is no punishment what are you talking about ? The loots are secured, it’s just the bonus loot that are subject to your performance. How entitled do you have to be to think that the bonus loot is yours to begin with and that if you slip they’ll remove it from your hands. Seriously players like this don’t make it easy to have decent games nowadays…

first of all, im not entitled, if it was up to me, none of this would ever be implemented in the first place, i like raiding, i already think its challenging enough to not only kill trash and bosses for hours and HOPE that your specific piece drop then have to win the roll for it.
second, again, we are already punished enough by dying, wasting time, gold, buffs, consumables, why ADD things that will be WASTED if we make mistakes?
as i said before, you either too invested and you one shot with no deaths 50/50 trial of the grand crusader and this system will never affect you, or youre like me and you can see how a significant portion of the player base wont want to even interact with this system because of how it is by design, so again, who is this for?
best example i can give is hardcore servers, their population is probably the smallest one because the audience for that specifically is very small even tho most of us can enjoy the clips, with the “roguelike” system youre effectively pushing a hardcore system into the entire game population, that nobody asked for, that a lot of people wont want to interact with, instead of adding something that is closer to the classic feel and difficulty

if you want to raid #NOCHANGES AQ40 for the zillionth time since 2006, the Era servers still exist.

Have the agency to stop crying, stop logging into SoD, and resume logging into Era.

You don’t understand. They. Give. Bonus. Loot.
You clear the raid, if you didn’t die you get bonus loot. If you died, you still get your loots. And you even have checkpoint after each boss.
What’s to be sad about that ? How can that be a hardcore system ? It’s loot piñata on top of loot piñata.
Just to make it clear, there’s people for you who are ‘too invested’ that will have access to most of the bonus loots. You mean the players who :
- Like to parse
- Have a solid guild with an organised roster
- Take the time to get all their world buff + consum
- Look at the strat
- Check their class discord to learn about their BiS list/best sim rotation

Yeah, that’s a certain dedication not every player has.

Then, there’s the players who are not as invested as them and will probably not get as much bonus loot or not even try to get bonus loot and just go the normal route. Those who :
- Get the main WB but don’t care to get the DMT ones
- May buy a flask but not always and not the 6 other consums available for their class
- Either PuG or go with a guild who has some turn-over on their roster since the members don’t have fix availability, etc.

They will still have access to the same gear, just not the same amount per reset.
So what is wrong with such a system ? In the end, everyone get to grab the same gears. For those who put the time and the effort, they’ll get their gear more rapidly. Those who don’t may have to spend a couple more week before getting the items they need.
It just makes sense though.

This system is nothing like HC. It simply gives you the opportunity to challenge yourself if you wish to and grants extra loot if you succeed. It’s not that different from the affix system that we currently have except that if you wipe, you won’t have the extra loot.
If you’re playing casually you should really see it as a mini-bonus. Go about raiding as usual, if you make it in one go then great, couple extra gear dropping ! If not, then it’s the normal amount of gear dropping.

You have a mentality of sweater without being one. It’s the sweaters that’ll stress about reaching the highest amount of loot from week one. If you’re not concerned about that then you don’t have to worry too much about it.

Because players like him will always cry if they do not receive the maximum theoretical reward every single time with minimal effort.

They can’t stand the thought that someone might be rewarded for playing better than they do and wish to drag everyone else down to the same baseline.
