Phase 2 and PvP

Dear Blizzard,

Just in case you’re scanning the forums and happen to see this post, I just wanted to say that I’m enjoying phase 2 so far, despite the fact that I’m dying just about every time I hop off the flightpath in contested areas (especially Gadgetzan, that place is a hot mess right now). Many people posting on these forums are upset by the state of the game right now, and especially those playing on faction imbalanced servers (which is an understandable grievance; my server, Incendius, doesn’t have that problem, so I can’t speak to it). I’d just like to request that you don’t succumb to the pressure and rush to phase 3. I love battlegrounds as much as the next PvP enthusiast, but I’m concerned that, if they are released too soon, it will not only set a bad trend for Classic (by speeding through the phases too quickly), but that we will never have another chance to experience open-world pvp like this again. I sure am getting ganked a lot, and I melt faster than butter in Death Valley without a healer to assist me against enemy players, but I’d be sad if the lifespan of phase 2 was cut permanently and prematurely short. Classic WoW isn’t always pretty, but, of course, Vanilla was known for its rough edges. I’d sooner risk getting farmed for honor for a few weeks, or a month, than forever lose the chance to experience this unique facet of WoW as it existed 14 years ago, and which many of us waited over a decade for. I’ll play the heck out of Battlegrounds when they release, but in the mean time I’d like to enjoy WoW as it is now, warts and all. If the downside to engaging in huge faction vs. faction brawls in the open world is having to deal with locust swarms of rogues and frost mages, then I’ll just scream internally, group up with fellow Horde members, and take revenge for the 5 minute long respawn timers by subjecting gankers to the taste of their own medicine.

Warzagg.

So you understand that players on an imbalanced server are having a terrible time, being ganked and camped on a 4:1 ratio, but you want things to stay the way they are because you are having a great time on a balanced server?

You know everyone pays the exact same amount for a subscription as you do? So these players also have the right to a great experience.

Sucks to be you, I chose a server that I knew was 50 / 50 balance ratio. And I am having a great time!

Unfortunately you don’t understand how this works: just because everyone pays the same amount to play the game, nothing says anywhere that gives them any other right than the right to login. What happens after that isn’t considered a “right.”

Of course, it’s considered luck. However, as a company, they will want to ensure that majority of their player base remains happy.

Ideally everyone has a fantastic experience, but since we don’t live in a ideal world, a compromise has to be made.

If 100 people on one end of the spectrum are having a fantastic experience, and the other 100 on the opposite end are having a poor experience, then a middle ground has to be found so those two different set of people have a good experience.

But it doesn’t though. Classic is all about the #nochanges and giving you the “authentic vanilla experience.” And this is it.

No it doesn’t. You may want that to happen, but that’s not the way this works.

It’s exactly how it works

If that’s how it works why is it not working that way?

It already has. The early release of DM being a prime example.

They went against the scheduled release of content to appease a certain segment of their customer base.

I hope you remember this phrase, if Blizzard decides to make any significant changes that you don’t like. Better not see ya in here cryin, just suck it up buttercup!

I don’t believe there was an overwhelming cry from players that wanted DM pushed out early, and even if there was sliding up the date of an instance is a whole lot different than making wholesale changes like you are stumping for.

So what exactly do you want and do you actually think Blizz will listen to you and do it?

Whether the cry was small or big doesn’t change the fact that DM was released prior to its initial schedule.

This shows that Blizzard responded to a portion of the customer base asking for it’s early release.

Will we see them release WSG early? I don’t know. However there is always a possibility that they might.

And there’s always a possibility that they won’t.

My money is on the latter.

OR, you know since we are guessing here, maybe Blizzard has a loose plan for the phases and full intent to monitor the player progression. Then release some content as they see fit.

You make it sound like Blizzard is polling player interests or something. They are not.

Well yeah, they have a loose plan based on the feedback they are receiving from players.

Think of it as a plan B.

Huge assumption.

Are you implying that Blizzard doesn’t listen to its customer base?

Nope, not at all. Just not they way you think they are.

Your way, oh look, there’s a complaint on the forums about not enough content. Let’s add Dire Maul early.

That would be believable but there were plenty of people saying to not rush the content. So listening to one group is ignoring other groups.

If they did the same thing with Phase 2 and release BGs early. They listened to some people only to ignore the large population of PvPers that want to wPvP only phase.

That’s an assumption.

That’s also an assumption.

See, we are just going back and forth and in the end nothing is going to be achieved.
