Yes and No. It gets down to how much DPS or HPS you want to do. For tanks I would say yes 100%. You should actively seeks your pre-raid BIS unless you get something that replaces it.
After all if everyone has their pre raid bis clearly Molten Core is that much easier.
Even in retail, if you go solo poke Ragnaros in whites and grays at level 60 he will whoop yo’ butt.
Well put. Additionally you have to worry about people sniping your BIS items when you finally find them. Imagine being a Warrior and finally getting Ironfoe to drop, just to have a bloody rogue snipe it.

I think you should include the Scarlet Key in your list of keys. It opens an important door in live Strat.
Couple things to add and extra details (sorry if I didn’t see them):
FYI getting all available mounts is insanely expensive. Each epic faction mount is 1000g base (900g with honored discount; goes down to 800g with PVP rank discount in Phase 2). 900g for cosmetic items that take up bag space is a lot in vanilla.
If you got time it doesnt hurt to try to get the best gear possible for your spec.

Some level theirs to 35 and take enchanting/tailoring, if they don’t have those on another toon.

Updated the list with everyones suggestions. Additionally I do know that getting all mounts is insanely expensive, however I put it in there because it is something that people can work towards, even if it’s just getting a small handful.
