Phantom Characters

For the third time in as many months I logged into the game and found phantom characters.

Previously, when I tried to change realms the menu said I had characters on servers I had played on before (Eldre’thalas and Cenarius). This time, it listed a character on Medivh, which I don’t recall ever having played on.

When I would click one of the servers to see what was going on though, it would take me to the character create screen. When I backed out of it, it showed me (correctly) that I had no characters on that realm.

I’m not worried about an account compromise as I’ve had an authenticator (physical) attached to my account since they came out and because there are no actual characters on these servers. Mostly I’m wondering if anyone has had this issue or knows anything about if it’s some kind of bug maybe?

Spooky scary skeletons.

If they’re after brains they’re going to be sorely disappointed.

Seems to be a lot of weird stuff happening to people’s characters with the new realm merging. Is your realm one of the targets for merging?
On a side note which might be related, I’ll occasionally log/quit and come back to my character wearing a previous transmog(but only on character selection)

I believe it’s a result of the merging servers.

It’s happened to me, as well.

My server was originally merged a few years back but we got 4 or 6 more connected recently. Since it’s not a frequent issue should it be reported as a bug?

I’ve lost all faith in bug reporting, honestly.

In my workplace, this is referred to as a, “chilling effect.” (When you don’t report problems because you feel like you’ll be retaliated against or that reporting them won’t accomplish anything.)

World of Warcraft has a very chilled culture.

I’ve experienced phantom characters from time to time ever since I attached a second game account to my b-net account… it will from time to time think I’m on the other account and say I have characters on a realm I don’t actually play on…

If you aren’t the only one who uses that computer for WoW as well, it might from time to time pull cache data from the other user and create phantom characters on the realm selection menu from that…

My battlenet has only one account and I am the sole user of this computer. I’ve only had it a week but I did have the issue previously on my old one.

Sounds like a ghost ,well it is that time of the year.dang.

Do they have good loot?

A free top end character might be fun.

Or transfer all their gold while they’re visiting you. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

That’d be nice, pay some rent over here.

I would guess is has something to do with the server connections. Unless you’re like me and make baby toons all over the place and forget to play them… or even hit the enter key to let them see the world.

Good to know im not alone in this. Some are made as name holders and others I just make and then they just sit… I don’t really know why.

Part of the Halloween event

So true. :100:

Definitely report. Might be a display bug, might be part of the known issues, but I wouldn’t take the chance. Database corruption should never be taken lightly.

This has happened to me recently.

This as well.

I’ve not had the mog issue but in all honesty, I don’t change my mogs often. Usually just during the Trial of Style or on the off-chance I get something pretty and want to make a whole new set.

me too but I make sure to periodically go back and delete them so other people can use the names if they want.
Otherwise I would have blocked off 49 names for level 5 blood elves I will never touch XD
