Just a basic question, am I gimping myself or gaining any advantage to only taming or using named rare pets?
Named pets are no different from unnamed ones of the same pet families.
In general, what you gain from taming named mobs is usually a unique appearance or the name.

Pet stats are normalized. There’s no difference between taming a level 1 in a starter zone or a level 60 rare spawn.
