Pets Lil' Flameo, Brrrgl, etc, and these ill-advised promotions

I sort of expected this sort of thing as company buyouts/mergers ALWAYS leave a big debt to pay.
However, having to buy a Funko pop to get Brrgl, MIGHT be more interesting if there was ANYTHING at all special about this pet, Yet another re-color and the same old moveset makes it clear that there was very little effort or thought put into this.

However this pales in comparison to the Lil’ Flameo pet. To get it one would have to buy a $159.99 US mouse?! That is way over the top to buy a mouse and i never heard of Steel Series until this promotion.

The one to get the Trolli worm pet seemed harmless as it cost a bag of gummi candy.

There are other promotions coming but i don’t know the details yet.

Further, i don’t understand why players in the rest of the world can’t get these items. Their money is good enough when collected. after that they are on their own? Pretty sure that MS and Blizzard are international companies with offices and servers all over.

The bruto mount seems odd at best. many were stampeded into buying it when it was announced it wouldn’t be available except for the occasional appearance on the BMAH (for gold cap). I wonder how many paid real money for enough tokens to buy that 6 million gold mount. I have no doubt it was way more than people are buying it for now.

I can’t wait to see what future really rare mounts are sold for. spectral, black qiraji tank, etc. tmogs too?
Yes I understand people don’t “have” to buy them. Some would like to, but simply don’t have that kind of extra money or do have a mouse and have no need to buy an over-priced one.
The mount and pet collectors have been at it for many years, so oh well.

Folks who want it bad enough will do whatever. This is true of everything in the game.

It’s a Kotick thing, he showed Blizz how to print money.

His legacy in full effect here.

Steel Series is a pretty reputable brand, but like it’s also just battle pets. It’s literally the least obligatory part of the game next to archeology.

Reputable doesn’t mean it’s worth that much money. I have read bad reviews about them since i heard about this promotion so who knows? Even those who bought this “amazing” mouse in the recent past are SOL unless they buy another?

Yes it’s “JUST” battle pets. or JUST mounts. or JUST tmogs. Between those 3 catagories, there are lots of players farming those items. Everyone has different views of what is obligatory.

Still waiting for a real reason other paying players across the world can’t get these items even if they could afford them. companies always throw out a shallow regulation excuse, when they are doing business selling products and services every where.

I know they make good headsets, I’ve never trusted any mouse after finding out about Logitech’s MX Master series of mice. It’s just a promotional item, usually they don’t have much of any effort out into them so unless someone really wants it it’s usually not that much or a bother to have missed out on it.

The reason this happens is because of existing laws in the United States as well as other countries pertaining to Promotional items.
It also has a lot to do with legal clauses struck between the companies involved in the promotion.
And then there is also a moratorium or statute of limitations for the item after the promotion ends that also prevents the dissemination of the items in alternate ways.

This was explained by Blizzard way back when, with Tyrael’s Charger. It’s one of the reasons it took over 10 years for the mount to be available in-game again through other means.

sure way back then, but this is now an international company with various divisions in different countries. There could be promotions setup in those countries, but that might take a little effort and imagination.

Brrgl has frost coming off of him!

He’s also got a unique summon.

I collect the Funk Murlocs, so this was a no-brainer for me.

But… I recommend anyone who buys it, log into your Battlenet account in the gear shop first. Otherwise, the code for Brrgl gets messed up and their CS is a pain to deal with. The gear shop isn’t run by Blizzard.

Activision Blizzard has been an international company with various divisions in different countries for far longer than the MS acquisition.

I know that the easy thing to do is to say: “greed and lazy is always the answer” but that is not how it works always.
You should read on the EU regulations and DSA (Digital Services Act) to understand more.

Sometimes, these promotional items in certain countries cannot be done, becuase there is a clause that states that the promotional item can never be acquired in any other form, other than the promotion presented. That is just one example of a deterrent to do a promotional item in that country.

Another example, is rules and regulations around food and promotions. You cannot attach certain advertisement campaigns to food to entice consumers to purchase the food. Like, in Mexico for example, Frosted Flakes cannot have the Tiger on the box because the Tiger attracts children to the sugary cereal.

Given the example of the US exclusive items you’re referring to are associated with food and beverages, I’d wager there is some legality related to that.

It’s most likely this, coupled with the fact that many EU countries have laws that anything like this has to have a free way to enter, be it mailing in a letter, etc.

And they I assume, don’t want to give this stuff away for free as then the money they spent for the partnership is pointless.

I’m poor, disabled, and can’t buy any of this stuff even with WoW tokens. Well maybe I’ll be able to work again when my hand heals.

Same.

I was able to get Gummi for $4 on walmart online, but steelseries? Nope. I can’t afford $30 for a funko either.
