Pets and their bad AI logic

Can we get some fixes for pet logic. these pets are the dumbest i’ve seen in ages. having to pet macros to force them to enter into combat is absolutely hilariously bad. we need them patched up and fixed. its bad enough AotD will sit there and do nothing until you take splash damage from a boss. please fix pet logic.

Pet logic is still not fixed in retail. I doubt they will fix it in wrath.

uhh, yes yes they are. they attack whatever i attack in retail. the fact you have to either hot key their attack or macro it into a spell is bad in this iteration of classic. that should’ve been fixed long ago. but nice try troll.

I was not expecting any response from you. But nice troll well done.

ahem this is the part where i’d call you sir, but you are no sir, you are the definition of a troll. the fact you think pet logic is broken on retail when it is fully functional and works fine shows your lack of intelligence and looking for some level of response. they behave correctly in retail. private servers having them working fine. multibillion dollar company not fixing things that should be working. but nice attempt to label me as a troll.

I just started playing a pet class (Warlock) and thought I was for sure doing something wrong and ended up having to make a spell/attack macro as my pet would either go on a killing spree (Aggressive) stand and watch idly (Passive) or wait until I was getting pummeled before attacking (defensive)

+100 to this, doubt they will fix sadly, but can hope

I played tbc/wrath in the day, and I’m pretty sure that when set on defensive, pets then would have functioned like assist does in retail today. The functionality that pets have right now is wrong.

thats correct.

Funny to see non-hunters being mad against their pet, welcome to the club.

PS: you HAVE to hotkey, use macros and manage your pet. Today’s interview with devs confirmed once again that this kind of management is intended and won’t change in Wrath Classic.

This is one of the unfortunate side-effects of the current #SomeChanges mindset of the developers. Things like Pet AI should be fixed, but for some stupid reason, they are not because it would “go against the Classic experience”, while it’s fine for other things to be implemented that didn’t either exist in Wrath or wouldn’t exist till later in Wrath.

was a hunter all thru vanilla n tbc. current pet behavior is absolutely not true to wotlk, unintended or not. they killed steam tonks and screwed up pet health after dismounting or losing pet and resummoning, and then bandaid fixed that

uh, the some changes and classic experience nonsense is all well and good. but this isn’t a some changes or classic experience. this is absolutely busted feature for pet classes. I know because Army of the dead and the dk ghoul worked perfectly fine back in wrath during 3.3.2 all the way to 3.3.5. they are choosing to leave a feature broken at this point if what is being reported is the case.

Agreed. At the beginning of Classic Vanilla pet was attacking your target from behind but at some point they nerfed it to the original vanilla behavior which is attacking in straight line, it was the most annoying thing to see your dumb pet not caring about mob position and causing parries. It stayed like that until TBC Classic (when it was fixed originally).

TBH tho, I don’t necessarily want my pet to go in combat and attack when I do, I like having a separate command (or macro) for that, it let me FD pull with my pet on and other things related to combat without having to dismiss my pet so I’m fine with the way it is right now. More control the better, especially with a dumb pet.

I still have to do this in retail to obtain my max dps

the worst part is, they already fixed this problem in retail, but the classic andys complain so much that getting any basic QOL fixes to this broken af game are impossible

This is beyond stupid. Its blatantly broken and doesnt function correctly. How is having animals running around wildly an acceptable option. It was annoying af in the real versions of the game and tons of players got yelled at like it was their fault in any way that the ai was complete garbage. The current retail version is how it shouldve always functioned from the start. This was something the hunter community complained about since vanillas launch.

Is this complaining about actual ai problems or just the fact that pet auto assist doesn’t exist? If its the latter you are whining about something inconsequential that is solved by having half a brain and making a macro or using the default buttons they give you which work perfectly fine.

Hunters figured it out in less than a day in classic. Imagine being dumber than the class commonly called huntards.

If you’re complaining about actual issues like weird pathing then that’s fair but its honestly not that big of an issue generally especially in boss arenas where it matters most.

well defensive acted very similarly to assist in cata adn going forward. i’d much rather have an option of aggressive, defensive or passive and then also have the option to use assist. its ridiculous that the pets have to be told with using their attack commands to get them to engage when defensive worked perfectly fine in original wrath.

its an actual problem. in original retail wrath pets would attack your target in defensive kind of similar to how assist works now. it wasn’t as intelligently designed as assist is. but it at least allowed the pet to operate on its own with out being told it needs to attack.

further more dks 6-10 minute CD Army of the Dead they could sit there doing nothing the entire fight if you don’t take some level of damage all because blizzard’s pet AI is dumb broken.

i’ve figured out how to manipulate my pet to attack the target i want. I just want to be able to have attack my desired target with out having to macro it.
