Petri + Alt F4 stealth nerfed?

I’ve heard rumors that petri altf4 no longer works in instances. Anyone have any more information? Would be great if we could get an official statement regarding this.

Correct. It does not work.

They hotfixed it and it doesn’t work anymore. Your character remains logged at the location you petri and you’ll die when it wears off.

Now if you want a reliable exit from a dungeon/raid you carry 2x petri and refresh it after leaving group with <60s at a good time. Or leave group and wait to petri until <60s on timer (but that requires ~10s after leaving group before the timer starts, so it doesn’t work well in many situations when you’re doing a snap petri to save your life, particularly for tanks.

Big difference now though is that you can’t effectively petri in the overworld, whereas you could before with alt-f4 because it would reset mob aggro when your character logged out and/or you could use unstuck after alt-f4 to remove your character from the situation.

FYI @Blizzard. Please hot fix.

I’m confused.

I thought the play was to drop group wait for the timer then petri.

You’re saying people have been cheesing it this whole time?

Lmao

They should just remove Petri flask entirely.

That’s what many people thought, and it’s what you usually see in the death videos.

But the real play was to petri and then immediately alt-f4. The logout time was 30s, so your character would safely disappear after 30s with the petri up and your character still invulnerable. Then you could either log back in when it’s safe, or use the online unstuck process to move your character to town while logged out. So unlike leaving group there was no window of waiting for the hearth timer and you could petri any time (including in the overworld) and remove yourself from a situation.

I’m not sure which video # it is, but in one of the HC WoW moments videos you can see a Frontier hunter use this to survive in BWL after a trash mis-pull. All of the endgame guilds and many 60 players knew about it.

Leaving group and using petri after the timer is <60s still works in dungeons, but they killed the alt-f4 logout trick. That’s why most raiding guilds recommend carrying 2x petris now, so you use one immediately to save the character until the hearth timer starts, then refresh it at a safe moment to bridge the time gap.

Crazy.

But honestly good to know they patched it out.

They should honestly put a higher CD on the Petri itself because there should be no get out of jail free cards.

If a Paladin can’t use a class ability as a fail safe, then every player shouldn’t be allowed to use a Profession that does the same thing but better.

Lmao. People REALLY want to break the rules, don’t they?

None of this is breaking any rules. Some people find it “cheesy” (I kind of do also), but it’s not against any TOS or the HC rules. People are just using an item that is doing what it is designed to do, and pairing that creatively with other basic commands in a clever way. Blizzard themselves said that they were fine with petri as a limited escape mechanism, but clearly they did not like the alt-f4 interaction and largely removed it. But they’re not banning anyone for doing it, as no part of it was off limits.

I know, but agreeing with that that other person said-

If they’re gonna remove pally bubbles, why allow this? It’s more or less the same thing, in how it’s used.

No invincibility should mean, no invincibility.

Maybe even Light of Elune as well.

They aren’t a problem in and of themselves, but you know people are gonna get clever to the point where it’s borderline against the spirit of Hardcore.

Yeah I agree, I wouldn’t be sad if they removed it and it would probably be more healthy for the game mode as you would have a lot fewer people trying to “roach” out of dungeons and raids and/or arbitrarily avoiding consequences of bad mispulls. As long as they’re in the game people are more-or-less obligated to have them at level 60 if they want to be playing at a high level, which is annoying and also puts a strain on people to farm gold and pay 50g/pop for the flasks.
