Petition: Hide Skirt Option

We all agree that transmog should not be in Classic, but one of the things that bothered me the most about Vanilla was having to play a character that wore skirts.

Would anyone support the introduction of an option to hide skirts? In practice I imagine this would show the torso portion of the robe while allowing your leggings to show where the skirt was.

So basically you want a hide chest option. Nah I like robes. If you don’t like how they look, you can always make a class that isn’t basically required to wear them.

Given that robes are a single model, it would take quite a bit of work to have a toggle that splits them in half.

What makes you think they are a single model? They are not.

We’ve had model viewers for over a decade.

Robes are all a single piece.

They actually aren’t! The engine toggles both slots when the item is equipped.

When you are wearing your skirt, just think of it as hazing, bro. All pledges need to do it before they earn their tier gear.

No. Hide helm and cloak was too much to begin with.

I mean those are vanilla things so I expect them in classic. But i like being able to visually SEE what my opponents are wearing.

Don’t like your clothing? Make a town outfit for when you are hanging out in town. Really don’t like robes? Don’t play something that wears dresses.

OP… it just occurred to me that you are making this request not because you feel silly wearing a dress but because it is … hiding the view? If so, to quote Weezer:

Crab at the booty, t’aint gonna do no good.

Trying to imagine Gandalf’s legs…

Yeah…no changes.

Always bugged me the simple/colorful kilts in game were ankle length instead of knee length  that being said you’ll wear your dress and like it

This would be an interesting addition to the modern game, but as it stands I’m going to have to go with no changes and say no.

Skirts? Those are robes and kilts my man, and men wore those for thousands of years! I think you may be overthinking this, or are insecure in some way. I’ll rock my wizard robes til I D.I.E.

Hide cloak is meh but imo hide helm has always been essential. I’d rather see my character’s hairstyle that I picked rather than a badly clipped or shorn up (why can’t females have long hair and a helmet?) mess. Even my gnome I’d rather see his spiky gray hair than hiding his face in a cowl, for instance.

It’s always been there and I think I’d have had less enthusiasm for the game out the gate if it’d made me look at ugly helmets all the time. I really can’t get into too many of the helmet models in this game, or how they’re implemented. Even on this character I had to shut helmet off (and it’s only a collar) because of clipping issues.

If you think about it it kind of negates that part of character customization. Sure you’re opponent will know what you have, but how much worse do you look and which is more important to YOUR experience?

At least my Iksar Necro in EQ wore a giant lizard skull on his head, that was pimp!

If you ever want to hide your ā€œskirtā€ in Classic, just think of this classic video from Vanilla WoW: Big Blue Dress

If you do that, how will the Blackrock Orcs target the one wearing the dress?

I think it’s asking for trouble opening with ā€˜we all agree’ around these parts

I don’t think the clown suits of old brought too much to the game tbh but I’ve been a proponent of the no changes approach. There is something pretty RP about having an offset of gear for chilling in UC during downtime though. I might start doing that again on retail just for kicks.

I get the point. And either way whatever was in vanilla as of 1.12 is what we should and will get.

But for the sake of the conversation… i really dont care about your personal visual experience. For what it’s worth, i wouldnt care if you edited your files to display as a night elf mohawk or whatever else so long as it doesnt affect me. But being able to see what someone else is wearing is a gameplay issue. I would argue that includes helmets.

90% of us are going to look like clowns until we’re well into the raiding cycle. Embrace the patchwerk.
