i know a ton of people will hate this opinion, but its important that i voice against them, because i know there are ALOT of people that feel this way too. its just that the purists are much more vocal about it. But i really think we should have an option to download updated models, add an option. At the very least create a downloadable texture pack/meshes. or allow it to only be turned on in specific servers while there are still some dedicated to the purists.
I will play vanilla wow, but the purists need to relax. Its not going to ruin the game to give people option, its rediculous that people are so concerned with whats on my screen. I mean for christ sake, where do u draw the line? say no UI mods because his screen isnt the same as mine? its nuts. reminds me of a certain political issue that impedes on others liberty to do what they want. not getting into that. but still its just an example.
If someone could give me a legit reason on how someone else having character model on their screens im open to it. but as of now i just dont see how me seeing better graphics effects you?
i have played vanilla wow alot. played it at launch and played it on private servers. Updated graphics will put a different spin on it for me. and doesnt effect anyones screen besides mine. give me a reason i shouldnt have the option, or atleast something i can download, or the VERY least on a seperate server in the realmlist for players like me. My reason for them is simple, it will put a breath of fresh air into the game for many players and make it more enjoyably and immersive. Whats your reason from preventing me and other players for that? if you cant give me a legit reason i think its domineering/officious to say i shouldnt be able to enjoy my reason. and thats just childlike and immature. i respect the thought still, so even if we have a realm where the character models arent an option, then i would definitely be ok with that, even happy, because i want everyone to have the option. So atleast give me my option. Thanks. please voice yourselves.

I agree.
As long as it is an optional thing and doesn't adversely affect those that want to play the original models then why not?

Petition for no new models.
OP, look into why the old models option in BfA doesn't look or act exactly like the models from vanilla
I've always been in favor of new models. Hated the old ones back in the day and still hate them today. I think launching with an option to enable new models isn't going to be viable, there are much more pressing issues that requires the Devs attention to ensure the game is ready to launch, but it would be nice to see this implemented sometime in the future.
I'll still play Classic either way.

Easy reason why no new ANYTHING in regards to models/anims:
Forms of expression.
The same reason why jumping in a game where you never actually need to jump is a good thing. It allows for personal expression.
Old models and animaitons had a certain charm and weirdness that was lost in translation to new models and animation. Those old models and animations allowed players to express themselves through their rough edges in ways new models/anims can't.
I don't just mean /emote - I'm talking any variety of things you can do with your toon.
It's important to preserve that the same way we preserve all original works.
Would Nosferatu be the same if it was filmed today with an all new cast, completely erasing the historical version? Absolutely not. Despite every frame being a 1:1 recreation of the original film, it's the new cast that would not be able to capture the emotion of the original cast. It would not be the same experience to watch.
No new models or animations. No new graphical anything. No new water, no new spell effects. Keep everything as it was and as a faithful recreation.

Would be great to have them as an option. This should expand the potential player base considerably as long as they can do it without messing up the old models and animations.

There is not a soul in the world who would play Classic Wow purely because of this. The gameplay will weed them all out before Lv 20.
Keep in mind, many players will dismiss playing a game based on it having really old graphics. Usually they will not know how good the gameplay is until they play. Which they are likely to never do if the game looks 15 years old.11/06/2018 09:53 AMPosted by Summerglen11/06/2018 09:49 AMPosted by FacerollWould be great to have them as an option. The gameplay is as old as the graphics. Just because it has pretty graphics, do you really think many people will be interested in an MMO like Pantheon? One that's effectively a revival of the Everquest & pre-WoW MMO era?
No. They won't. People who play games today care too much about their rapid-fire dopamine hits to play something that's slow even if it has pretty graphics. EVE Online's a gorgeous game, but the playerbase is small for a reason.
Petitions for old models on BFA. You hate old models on BFA right? Then deal with old models on classic.

So why cant i express it to be how i choose on my screen, again its not effecting you. Its not effecting all the reasons you listed for me to change it on my screen.

i am not playing for the models, i am playing it for the game, but why would having more option hurt that?
Because when I create my character at the creation screen, I'm not only making it for myself but imagining what other people see as well. If my character has a certain hairstyle, face, animations etc. then everyone should be able to see it. You may think this reasoning is dumb, but to me it's a more immersive and interactive game when everyone interacts with the exact same world. I'm against sharding for the same reason.

From what i understand they are using some code from the current game running on an old patch, i could be wrong and entirely uneducated, but it seems from the demo they still have the modern system in place, reasoning there is that you can open dungeon finder in the demo via console command, even if the little button on the bottom is missing. They did this to get rid of alot of the quirks. So if they are already running on that model i would think it would be much easier to implement the models. Plus it has already been done before, alot of private server have updated models in their servers, or atleast an option to download them. Granted its not optimized but still possible and possible very easily, especially if you have a massive development team
Considering they will be releasing this next summer, I feel relatively confident there will be no option for new models. Itβs not as simple as you might believe.

I think if you want old models on BfA you can just go into the options and check it off correct? if not that was an option in warlords. as far as i remember, and i dont see anything wrong with that, it doesnt bother me.

I can see this point, but similar to the options for people using old character models in retail wow, it never bothered me that a couple people saw my character as a potato. Because at the end of the day, im playing my character for many hours and want to enjoy the look of it and im not solely playing it for how i appear to everyone else. Granted it is a big part of it for how you will appear to others, and if that is that important to you, then thats why i suggested realms that didnt offer that option, so you can be sure everyone is seeing the dull version.

But if it's a personal client setting it would be the exact same experience to watch for the people who don't turn it on

Now imagine that Eve online had terrible graphics, do you think they would even still exist? i would venture to guess there would be alot less players. It just adds to the immersion to have fluid animation and graphics for alot of people, and immersion is what i care most about and i know alot of people are the same way. and generally speaking, models/animations=immersion boost, excluding all other aspects of the game

Not everyone would be looking at the same thing, though, which is important. The hair styles and facial options will be different as well as the animations. It's also something that could send WoW down a slippery slope into modifying things that will affect all users.
