Pet tank question, Thick Fur?

Everywhere I read bears are suppose to have Thick Fur ability.
My bear tank doesn’t have thick fur as far as I can tell.
Can someone explain to me what I’m misunderstanding here?
I ask in game but all hunters say they are alts and have no clue either.

everywhere I look I see his thick fur

Your bear must have not hit puberty yet. Once they do they grow hair all over.

Does anyone know what I’m misunderstanding here? Thank you.

This page here, I think all hunters have heard of petopia.

Says bear family abilities should be Thick Fur.

I can’t even do the command /cast thick fur
It doesn’t exist on my bear.
Any hunters here?

Look in the spell book?

100 yd range

Requires Hunter

Requires level 14

When falling below 40% health, the Bear’s fur will thicken, granting 60% reduced incoming damage for 15 sec.

This effect can only occur once every 120 sec.

(2m cooldown)

Yes I did.
I just trained a clefthoof and I see their equivalent in the spellbook “Thick Hide”.
Just none for bear.

Do you have any other bears? Check them or tame another one then look.

Thick Fur for the Bear pet family is a Passive Special Ability. You cannot manually use/activate it, it’s triggered automatically when your pet falls bellow a certain health threshold. This can only happen once every 120 sec.

Apply Aura: Proc Trigger Spell

As for where you can find it, it’s located in your spellbook, in the Pet tab. It should be the last ability shown in the pet spellbook, on page 2. Same as it is with your Clefthoof(Thick Hide). If it’s not there, then either your pet isn’t actually classed as a Bear, or there’s a bug of some sort. If you’re unsure of whether you have it, head into combat with your pet, make sure to have it fall bellow 40% health remaining, and once it does, watch if it gains the Thick Fur buff.

I appreciate your response, I know all this. My question wasn’t what is it, it was why doesn’t my bear have it.
I know I sound saucy, but it’s not meant that way, just no better way to say it. Thanks have a good day.

I’ve moved on haha, I have corehound and clefthoof now. ty ty!

Fair enough. I thought, considering your comment about trying to use the ability in a macro, that you weren’t fully aware of what it was/how it worked.

Anyway, assuming the hunter you’ve tamed the pet on is above level 14, is a retail(non-classic) character, and the Bear you’ve tamed is listed on the page you linked for petopia, and/or it says that it’s a Bear when you check its classification ingame, then indeed it probably is a bug of some sort. Try tame a different Bear in that case.

Do note that if you’re playing as BM and have the talent Animal Companion chosen so that you can have 2 permanent pets out at the same time, the second pet won’t have any special abilities, nor will that pet have any ties to what you can find in your pet spellbook. This might seem silly but if you don’t have a pet placed in the first stable slot, in your stables, with Animal Companion picked, the game might summon one of your active pets instead as the second pet, which you haven’t already called out manually.

It’s not really intended to work that way, but it can happen sometimes under those circumstances. My point is that, make sure to check it so that when you have your Bear out, that it’s not in the form of your Animal Companion.

awesome, thank you so much. I appreciate the responses. Nobody helped anywhere else except this thread so ty ty

Np. Glad it helped!

Just tested this with the bears from the Emerald Dream and it does work. It is a passive that does not show in the Pet section within the Spellbook. Once the bear hits 40% HP you can see the ability enabled (Thick Fur).

This is 2 years old. They moved on to other pets.

How did this thread get necro’d lol

Someone searched “Thick” and “Fur”. However, this might not have been what they were looking for.
