Pet Specializations

Please, for the love of all that is holy, just allow us the freedom to select Cunning, Tenacity or Ferocity for any pet. Having these arbitrary restrictions on what pets I can use feels so bad. I love the wolfhawks and spirit beasts but both families are Tenacity for some reason?

Why limit what pets people can use when we’ve had the system to just pick their specialty in previous expansions. Such a weird thing to pivot back on.

Agree should pf been done long time ago

They had it that way for a while back in legion i think. Then pvp peeps complained they couldn’t tell if the hunters pet had mortal strike or not. So they reverted it.

I don’t think that’s the reason. Ferocity/Cunning/Tenacity doesn’t equal Mortal Strike. It’s certain pets that are tamed have it.

Ahh yeah your prolly right. I thought back when blizz let us choose our pets talents, you could have a wolf pet that doesnt have a mortal strike, be talented into the skill so it did.

He was on the right track, just wrong example. You couldn’t know if the pet had freedom or extra defensive. But I believe the Blizz reasoning was to “make the tames more meaningful” not find Loque and now he’s your Jack of all trades freedom/defensive/lust pet

Yeah, that’s not a thing as Levitaete said. Although I would LOVE to be able to use my little monkeys in pvp, but their special is literally 30% dodge chance for 20 seconds on a 1.5 min’ cooldown. Essentially worthless lmfao…

I’m seriously sick of having 68 pets in my stable, but only 2 of them are viable for use. I’m stuck using a hyena (mortal strike, most people use raptors but I don’t like’m) which I’m okay with using, or my spirit beasts (All identical besides looks, I’ve got 11 and just use the same one). Like, WHAT?

You mean what probably 90% of us BM hunters are doing unless we’re running mortal strike on our pet? Pets are less meaningful, you have TONS of pets but 95% of them have sub-par pet skills. I don’t use lust, you’ve got shaman, mages and evokers who can lust for you. That’s a PvE thing, and you should have at least one of those classes if you’re in need of a lust. Relying on a hunter for it’s ridiculous.

Also, freedom comes from my pet with mortal strike.
Defensives come with spirit beast.
Literally the options we have. You described the two.

I do miss the pet talent system.

You’re hyper focused on the wrong part of my response. The clarity of knowing if you see a tenacity pet it’s giving the Hunter a defensive and no freedom is more important than what you quoted.

Regardless, in PvE you’re going to get invited to keys purely BECAUSE you can bring Lust here and there. Its pretty much the only utility we have that would get us invited over another class

I don’t care either way, just saying what argument can be said against it/read what Blizz said as their reasoning

Then why not add a symbol on or around the pet frame to symbolize its specialization, allowing actual pet usage rather than giving us extremely limited options?

I think pet talent trees should be a pack leader thing.

Master’s Call, not Mortal Wounds.

Ahh see, I knew it started with an M!

For real though, I really want to be able to use my other pets one day without feeling like I’m screwing my team over. Blizz, please balance pets out so the mass majority aren’t sitting unused.

You’d think, but they specifically called out Mortal Wounds.

Which is even MORE stupid because family abilities have existed basically forever. “Secret mortal wounds turtles” were NEVER a thing.

I’m just baffled they think secret hidden wounding turtles would even be a good reason to lock all pet options away; all while refusing to fix other pet abilities.

Like, these monkeys are my favorite pet. I can only use it as my main pet when I’m doing pointless stuff like quests, or sitting in the city doing nothing.

For all intent and purposes these guys right here (picture above) may as well have no skill. It’s an extremely bad version of evasion from rogues.

Continuing the discussion from Fluffy and You: Hunter Pets:

20 pet families in cunning. 3 are apparently usable. I use hyenas even though I’d prefer not to, they force you to pick between these hand selected pets they decided would be worth anything.

Because they wanted pet uniqueness, they made most of them unusable. What does being unique matter if you’re so bad no one picks you for their team?

I’m more annoyed about the mortal wounds part of it. Too many pets are useless right now.

If perhaps they spent a bit of time balancing all the families, that would be sooo much better. Like Primal Agility, maybe instead of just giving the pet dodge, pass some over to the hunter too or something? At least put some effort into it… Or baseline all the pets to the same ability if you’re so worried people are going to be confused on what pet has mortal wounds or not. Just something, anything. How is it for all this time we’re okay with just seeing the same pets being used, when there’s an entire world of beasts out there? I am SO sick of raptors being baseline in pvp.
