I am unable to turn off pet sounds in game, even when I go through System > Sounds > Disable Pet sounds. Is there an addon that can work around this at all?

If the in-game controls are not adjusting sound, it’s likely another addon is overriding the default setting. Fishing Buddy is an example of an addon that can do this (it turns up all sounds despite in-game settings).

updating this thread again since I’ve started playing survival again (sorry)
I’ve disabled all of my addons, exited and relogged into the game, and pet sounds are still there. Only when I disable sound effect completely do they stop.
You might need to check to make sure your World of Warcraft\retail\WTF\config.wtf isn’t set to read only (right click it>properties>make sure read only is unchecked)
You also might need to run a CVAR reset by running the command /console cvar_default while in game and don’t worry about any error it might pop up.
Once you do that, run the command /reload log out and exit the client, then reboot back in and redo all of your graphics and interface settings.
This should 100% reset your entire client and any left over settings stored on the servers.
