Pet Showcase from PTR

So I want to inspire players when it comes to pets in housing. I’ve made just a few room examples in the little time I have had (while also trying to test for housing bugs!) and I wanted to share them to show that we definitely need a bigger budget for pets if possible. If you want them to give us a bigger pet budget, please give constructive feedback so that they know.

Note: I am not a video maker/content creator or whatever so this is far from a cinematic experience. In fact, this is the very first time I have ever done something like this. I also just used decor that I could easily get through the PTR and put them together quickly which means they’re definitely not perfect. Also, in the earlier videos it was more difficult to hide the pet “beds”, so they do stick out a lot (sorry about that).

The Park:

The day room wasn’t working correctly at this time so I used the evening room. The theme or backstory for the first two clips is a sanctuary for the butterflies from Dalaran after it was destroyed. The third clip is the “park” at night. Tip of the day: glowy pets? Use an inky black potion.

The Pantry and The Attic:

In this section I made a simple pantry/storage room, but some of the produce is very uh… Lively and has gotten loose. The attic (filled with all of the decor that I won’t use) shows off Dust Seeker (the broom) doing its best to deal with a pretty serious outbreak of Dust Bunnies, plus a couple of cute arachnids who have made the attic their new home where it’s wonderfully quiet and dark.

For the carrot and the turnip, a vegetable garden would also be a nice setting (no soil decor) or even a kitchen where maybe they are the ones cooking the food? Just a couple of other ideas that I had for those two, but I wanted to go with something more simple.

I also tried to do a “Fel Lair” for fel pets and a crypt for Undead, but neither were turning out well at all without certain decor. I’ve started playing around with pets outside a little, but until they have pathing it’s not gonna be amazing. Anyway, I don’t know if I will share more but I will probably continue playing around with it and maybe save some clips for myself if nothing else (unless you guys want to see more perhaps?). Thanks for checking it out.

Very cool applications. Great work.

Nice clips, good work, excellent reporting.

If I could guess, they’ll save adding to the pet budget for some future big patch. I can see with your Dust Bunnies that these pets can dominate a room.

If I could watch IMGUR clips, I would. But alas, I have an ad blocker, so I can’t. I believe you, tho!

Oh man! That really bites. I’ll see if there’s another option!

Interesting… They play for me using Firefox with the uBlock Origin and Privacy Badger ad blockers available.

Please don’t on my account. I’m simply explaining why I can’t see your work. I have no doubt that your efforts are well done.

Well, since I do not use Firefox…

Sorry… Don’t really see the need to get snippy though.

These look great OP! Really looking forward to adding pets to my homes eventually, but man, only 10…I hope they up it eventually…I have so many pets and so many ideas and where they’d look good.

I remember you were on the hype train too when it was announced I think! Good to see you.

I wish we could resize the pets larger or maybe I am just not doing it right. I love your ideas with pets.

Sadly I did not see Gnomelia Gearheart as a useable pet but the clockwork gnomes were there so I have someone to work my engineering store.

Yeah I saw that. No Uuna or the others either I’m afraid. It is only PTR though so stuff is subject to change of course, but it’s not looking good.

As for the pet size thing, you kind of can change it on PTR. Pet biscuits do work to go bigger or smaller, they just aren’t permanent. That may or may not make it to live when it comes out of course, but it’s something.

I really wanted the ability to resize them. Since my house is like a little farm I wanted to resize some of the pets to make them bigger. The pygmy cow is so tiny, same with the pigs.

Yeah I put some pigs outside in the yard and the pet biscuit made them like the perfect size I think, but of course it didn’t last.

I poked around with the pets a bit this evening. I had been having issues a few days ago but I think the issue was with the pet crate I was using. I tried some different ‘beds’ today and several of them seem to work just fine. The pet crate (can’t remember which one) wasn’t spawning the pet at all for me but if I lift the crate about 4-5’ in the air, the pet spawns under it and wanders around. I’m having a similar issue with the Dragonhawk incubator with the pet wanting to spawn under it.

The pets didn’t try to go up the ramp I had in the room but two of the pets were totally fine wandering into the adjacent room which apparently was within their wander radius. I didn’t have any furniture set up in the room as I was mostly trying out some new ideas for my big rebuild to see if my idea would work (didn’t work as planned but I have a couple of ideas on how to tweak it).

I’ll check these out again and submit some bug reports if they aren’t working for me either to get more traction. I’ve mostly just used the plinth and the nest a little, but the turtle I placed on the lily pad outdoors seemed fine so I thought they had fixed them.

Thank you for reporting your findings so far!

I appreciate the bed testing! I want my pet in my house too.

I think, if I read between the lines on this thread, that what people are seeing as bugs maybe just be normal pet behavior. For example, I almost always have my Baby Blizzard Bear out while decorating – this pet can path very well and follow me to rooms and so on. What this pet can’t deal with are things in the air, like platforms or if you are making stairs or even other odd bits that we stick up there to walk on – the pet will TRY (it is so sad that I have to dismiss it sometimes) and will phase up beside me and then end up on the floor again.

So, while you are testing – maybe also have a regular pet out too and watch its behavior.

Maybe pets will be able to handle the new stair objects since they are designed for the purpose of walking on. Though we will need more options here in the future.

Maybe. We are pushing things as designers. You can walk on a rug, but you can’t put a chair on it – you have to set it somewhere and nudge, nudge, nudge it over. Your pet will fall through it. Katie Stampwhistle will whistle but disappear because it is not a floor. If you flip the rug, you fall through it. So, do you want the designers to change all of that?
