my hunter is ENTIRELY useless as a character now. the class is completely broken, i have to manually instruct my pet to attack every single monster now. what the heck
That’s how it used to be. You put your pet on passive and control what it does. Get used to ctrl 1 followed by building aggro and shooting a serpent sting
No, Defensive in Classic would cause the pet to attack when you attack or get attacked. Right now though its working like it does in Retail where it only activates when you get attacked.
incorrect. in classic the pet attacked whatever you started attacking automatically
Just a correction (for some posters). Pet auto assist did NOT exist until BC. In order to create an assist, a macro /pet attack was made. You kept the pet on passive and used this macro as part of your hunter rotation. That way, you were in full control of how/when/where the pet engaged. This also helped with tagging and loss of skins/loot. Because back then, hunter and pet were not seen as a “group” (like they are now). So if the pet tagged before you, you could not loot it or skin it. Hunters had to keep their pets on passive when grinding for skinning etc. If entering an aggressive area, the pet would attack the mob in defense only, thus losing any loot or skins. If you couldn’t get enough distance, again, loss of loot and skins. And depending on what KIND of pet you have, their speed can actually outrun/beat any range that you do have.
You can also add Hunter’s Mark to that macro and apply it to the target, for extra damage. Though I dislike doing that myself. I keep them separate, because you never know when you will need to work with another hunter on who does what.
Look up the /petattack macro online.
In Classic, your pet can hit first and you can still loot provide you do some amount of damage before the mob dies.
If you are able to get a tag on the mob. As I said, yes. Damage> Tag.
