Pet naming question

Hey Everybody! I have been meaning to pos this question for a while now but never forgot or never got around to it. Here the thing I tamed a second Lorque’nahak some time ago because I had this idea for them. What I was thinking of doing was thinking of leaving one named Lorque’nahak and name the other ¬¬ Har’koa but later decided not to because I became hesitant due to the naming rules/regulations/policies. I’m wondering if that would be against naming rules/regulations/policies because of Har’koa being a NPC quest giver and technically a Blizzard owned name. I understand if Har’koa was a regular/rare mob she would keep the name when taming her but since she’s not I wanted to find out because I don’t feel like getting in trouble with Blizzard and then having to rename the pet again for it. A blue response would be really great but any response is greatly appreciated. Sorry about the grammar/spelling errors. Thanks

Name your pet whatever you like; if it’s already “illegal” (against Blizz policy), then you simply won’t be able use that name, you’ll get an error message. You won’t get into trouble for trying.

Obviously if you name a pet something racist, filthy, or otherwise genuinely offensive, you may get reported for the name. So don’t do that.

Renaming a pet is not a traumatic thing. You can easily acquire a Certificate of Ownership to rename it.

If it helps I tamed Elegon, and his ‘pet name’ changed to Serpent or astral Serpent (don’t really remember) , but renamed it to ‘Elegon’ and nothing against the policies really happened, so I guess you should not have any inconveniences.

What the posters above said.

I’ve gotten rare pets, and in the past it would change their name to ‘serpent’ ‘wolf’ ‘cat’ or whatever, it was a rare, so I would change it back to the rare name. If it didn’t have special characters. It always let me do that.

I’ve tried to get other names, that it just won’t allow. Even if I can’t figure out why, it just stops you from getting them and tells you to pick a different name.

If you want to rename like the poster above said you can get the ‘certificate of ownership’ I once stabled a pet without renaming it and it was ‘dog’ with no way to rename ‘dog’. I got the certificate and gave it a real name.

I tamed a second ghostcrawler (spirit crab) but not able to rename it.
Is there any issue that avoid you to rename a identical pet?

Unless they are offensive, I wouldn’t worry about a pet name. Other than the names flat out blocked by the naming function, Blizzard seems to rely on player reports for any other sort of naming policy enforcement.

Something appears to have changed recently (either with prepatch or 8.3, reports differ) where named pets that retain their name when tamed are not able to be renamed as normal (previously, they could be). In order to rename those pets, you’ll need to get a Certificate of Ownership from the AH (or make it yourself, if you’re a scribe).
