Pet battles seem very over tuned in shadowlands dailies. I have yet to complete a lot of daily quests due to the difficulty of the battles. I’m confused as to why they are so strong? This is more in regards to raw stats, they all have 2k+ health compared to my 1.4k and have around 50% increased power/speed stats. A lot of them also have counter moves to the counter pets to increase it even further.
I’m aware of counter comps that are posted on wowhead but I do not have a lot of those pets and people doing it at lvl 1 just seems like a work around to poor gameplay design. I do have quite a few pets and have been doing battles since WoD but these are very frustrating. I’ve spent 45+ minutes on fights trying to do different comps and finally gave up the other day. I’m curious if anyone else feels this way or if it’s just me not having the correct OP comps?
A lot of them are tricky. Some are easier than others too, like Mega Bite.
There are excellent setups for each battle on the Wowhead comments. I’ve had 100% success rate using these comps. It looks like you read about them. In some cases you may need a specific pet to force it to work. The teams are unforgiving sometimes.
That’s something I’ve noticed. Their stats are inflated relative to what “blue/rare” pets should be.
In the past, legendary pets had inflated stats, which was ok, because those were special encounters. These battle master pets in this expansion, however, even at level 1 have inflated stats, well beyond what their stat budget should be, and well beyond what the player can pick up at the “rare” pet quality level.
One of them has a pet that, at level 1, has 30 attack…
This is what most people are doing, but not everyone has a vast library of 1k+ pets to pick from.
There was a mention at the beginning of the expansion they were going to make pet battles harder, shake up some teams etc. Apparently the fun detectors went off and “they” sprang into action.
They have to be tuned this way at this point, as players have discovered quite a few exploitable comps that just kinda auto-win in a large number of scenarios. They do still have counters, but it feels like generalist teams are more or less dead now.
Even through BfA, I had a team that won against anything NPC related 90% of the time, if not more, with only two exceptions that come to mind that needed more specific teams to counter. Mechagon tried to put out more difficult legendary battles, but then players discovered a single comp that I believe countered every single one of them, with only slight variations in attack orders.
I think players would be less driven to find singular teams to cover everything if Blizzard would just give us the option to save teams (even though some addons already do this). I’d kill for even just very general Mechanical Team, Aquatic Team, Flying Team, etc. Just something so I didn’t have to search my entire catalog every time I needed to use something different.
It depends. Sites like Xu-Fu’s Pet Secretes are a tremendous help for finding the right combo to counter what you face, and some of the pet battles are ludicrously easy. But definitely if you do not have a lot of somewhat rare pets you might have a very tough time with some bosses.
The only ones I have issue with are the ones heavily dependent on rng. That one guy in ardenweald who uses a bunch of rng moves…ugh…even with the literal best counters to that team you can still lose almost like 50/50…that’s just bad design. Most of the others are fine/fair enough tho
Pretty much any variation of make enemy take more damage from hits and then a type counter swarm ability (seems to be one for every type now) is a instant kill.
Yeah they seem a bit harder this xpac but I think that’s a good thing. Pet battles are pretty much a script you follow from Wowhead. It’s nice to have a small amount of challenge.
Not sure if this is the same one you’re thinking of, but there is one in Maldraxxus that’s impossible without having two immunities used on just the last creature, which is just obnoxious design.
Not everyone wants to have zero challenge, and cheese the system. I honestly would rather they removed the scaling for current expansion pet battles. It’s like walking into a raid, taking off all your gear because that’s what the boss scales off of, and then never being in danger of failing. What’s the point.
