So to clarify the question, if you still pet battle how often do you do them and why?
When MoP released I was so into pet battles, I was a collector already in wow plus I enjoyed Pokémon on game boy so it was a great fit for me. I would search for the rare pets like Unborn Valkyr when it was hard to find for example.
Now I basically only do it for world quests as part of the weekly quest if you need six or 10 world quests for example. Or for spark of life it’s nice to do pet battles with war mode on so there’s no risk of PvPing lol.
Very rarely if I am super bored I will hop into the old challenge dungeons as I don’t have all of those pets yet but I’m in no rush to collect the currency.
I still keep up buying every pet from trading post but mostly I just space out and do the repeatable stuff with the addons for an easier time.
I do the world quests and I have a good mix of level 25 monsters. I think they’re fine, but not what I play WoW for. I have real Pokemon games I can play
I do world quest battle pets quest every day …usually on few of my alts…which has helped me acquire tons of pet leveling stones and breed stones and stones to make pet rare…I just went over 1813 Unique battle pets this week due too 3 new pets off the Trading post and 2 brand new ones in that WoW shop package the two new ones only cost me $7 dollars cause I had all the others…that offer is good till May 7th then the package leaves but you can still buy the new ones at $10 each…
I walked into TWW with over 54,000 Pet charms…like I said I do many battles daily with my army of alts…
Up to Legion, I made sure to have every possible pet from every source at Rare. That’s the point where I felt like the strategies were getting too complicated to just figure out on your own, and I don’t like looking things up too much. So, I think I’m missing Safari from BfA forward, and I have a lot of non-Rare pets to get caught up on. I also used to run the two Darkmoon Faire battles every available day on my alt, Entitled. She only leveled via DMF, and is currently sitting at level 31.
That being said, I do still level and catch pets pretty regularly. For the Trading Post, Complete 15 Pet Battles is one of the first things I do, specifically in Draenor, since I still don’t have the pet battle garrison statue just yet.
More now than in Mists… however, I used to try and find the rare pets and level them if need be. Now, I just capture whatever I find. Then I buy stones to make them rare or level them up.
I’ve been to it in the past. I just don’t prefer leaving the game to set up or research in-game stuff. I’m also a big fan of figuring things out on my own, when possible.
Yeah most times now with wild pets I don’t spend hours hunting a rare one…esp like in Undermine…just wow trying to deal with everything there trying to kill you as you move around…and no I hate that horrible car to move around down there…I have 1000’s of stones for leveling and making them rare and quite enough pet charms if I need to buy more…
Before pet battles, I only had a few random pets I got by luck. Phoenix hatchling, and onyxian whelpling. I also do achievements and got the skunk that chases cats around. I used those 3 to do pet battles. I don’t do collections though, but you get to a point in pet battling where you can’t progress without the right types or even specific species so that’s when I got more involved to do the MoP pet tournament. I lost interest after pet battle dungeons.
Same actually. I still collect them but outside world quests for the weekly there really isn’t much battle pet stuff to do anymore. Things like the Celestial Tournament and pet dungeons seem to be a thing of the past. Haven’t even seen a new Raiding with Leashes in a long time.
It’s not deep enough, or I’d be super into them. I’m a huge Pokémon fan, I’ve spent thousands of hours playing competitively. It just doesn’t compare really.
I think if they polished it a little bit it could be awesome. They have the basic structure there. And the pet battle dungeons was a cool idea. Just needs a little water and fertilizer.
There are also some missing archetypes that could be brought in. To spice it up, but there’s a danger that could affect the pvp pet battles negatively if they don’t put effort into balancing it (ex: toxic wall type like Toxapex/Ferrothorn).
Only time I do actual person-to-person pet battles is if there is a quest up. Othewise I use them for world quests and I collect them. They are very cute things to collect.
Oddly, I can remember back when the first of what was then called “vanity pets” was put into the game; it was considered weird for people to walk around with these odd little pets. The first pets ever put in the game were the Panda Cub, the Zergling and the Mini Diablo. Early on in vanilla you could go to Booty Bay and buy a Parrot for a few silver. I think the first battle pet I got was Pengu, back in Wrath. I seem to recall they were given to everyone when they made a character.
So effectively I’ve been collecting them (sort of) for 16 years. However it wasn’t until MoP (I’m fairly sure) that we are able to battle them. I recall that when we knew it was going to be possible to capture battle pets out in the world, a guildy of mine believed we would be able to sell every pet we caught and went out madly collecting hundreds of them. Naturally he was disappointed when the majority of them turned out to be uncageable.
I was into them bigly in Mists. They were new and fun, required a little bit of thought but nothing too frustrating.
That era culminated with the celestial tournament, which was brutal and kind of set the tone for pet content going forward where a lot of even the daily encounters in WoD and Legion were kind of brutal and would send you off to old google to use someone else’s strategy.
Thankfully they toned the average encounters down in Dragon Flight and they’re pretty relaxing content again.
Yeah none of the wild battle pets can be caged and sold…I tried pet battling when it first came out in MoP and thought it was dang silly so I never kept it up back then…when along came WoD and the hit to the AH market with ores and herbs cause our Garrisons had that stuff.
So I had to sit back and figure way to make gold since ores and herbs were not selling as well as they use too…so I got into Pet Battles really really heavy now…I found pets I could cage and sell …like that one one we got were you had to have all kinds of potions and others to get though the cave area…well I went and got 9 of those …learned one and sold the other 8 and made 2.25 Million gold off them…that there set me in motion to the collection I have now I just hit 1813 unique battle pets.
I also stop PVPing due to health issues so I doing the pet battling filled that void up for me…
