Pet Battles for Dummies

Possibly another couple helpful hints.

Pet collecting and battles is very alt friendly, even faction friendly.

Alts with access to mission tables are good for running pet charm missions… seems you said you haven’t bought into Shadowlands yet… if I recall correctly, both Legion and BfA mission tables offered missions rewarding polished pet charms. The charms can be mailed to a main.

You asked how to delete some pets… it’s not perfect… right click, some of them can be caged. Caging them puts them back into inventory in your bags.

You can put anything in your 2nd and 3rd slots. I often defeated all 3 wild pandaria pets with the Cornish Rex cat. Sometimes it would be tricky if the wild pet had aquatics or a blue level for a secondary. I think a bigger issue would be not killing the frontline critter you were trying to capture, but I would be shocked if weren’t able to do it if you tried a few times.

Other good starter pets. Anubiseth Idol. He’s a drop from an old raid boss. I sucker with names and directions but you can look it up on wowhead. Might have to run a few times to get it to drop but it’s a great versatile pet that can solo a lot of intro pet stuff. Strand crabs are also really good. They heal and have a shield and can solo a ton of fights. They’re caught wild in stranglethorn I think. There may be better starter pets now but those two stand out from when I was progressing through pet battles years ago.

I didn’t read through the whole thread, but if you want simple, this is what I would do.

-Get 35 pet charms via any means. You can use lvl 1 pets to do the pet charm WQs and they’re actually easier. (The pets including the enemy pet will only have access to a single ability, so you just need to pick pets that counter damage theirs.) Or you can do a couple pet charm missions at your command table.

-Go to Legion Dalaran and buy one epic training stone from Lio the Lioness in the Magical Menagerie. (First door to your right when you port into Dal.)

-Use it on any pet, doesn’t matter. You just need to unlock level 25 pets.

-Go to the AH and buy a couple other level 25 pets, just make sure one of them has either Weakening Blow or Superbark (or similar ability.) These abilities can’t kill the pet you’re trying to tame, only reduce their health to a minimum of 1.

Weakening Blow pet examples:
Terrible Turnip
Stemmins

Superbark pet examples:
Corgi Pup
Molten Corgi
Grumpy
Scraps

Then just head out there, find your lil racoon, and use the pet with one of those abilities to get it low, capture it, kill the other two pets, and you’re done.

Good evening!

Okay.

I sorted the pets I leveled last night (are all up to around lvl 9 to 11) and have cornish rex or luriking owl kitten for critters, azure whelpling or celestial dragon for flying and crimson moth for aquatic. Will continue leveling them along with the Terrible Turnip for capturing pets, and Sinister Squashling and Widget because I like them!

Thank you so much for going all this work!

:cupcake: :cupcake: :cupcake: for you!

It is the same model but not the same color. Trashy is a grey color like the Bandicoon while the Masked Tanuki is a straight up brown.

But thank you anyway.

You too!!!

Very late update:

I got my Masked Tanuki about nine day ago and was very happy. However, it was a good thing I also got a Masked Tanuki PuP because the Masked Tanuki looked… over-sized next to my little Gnome so pup fits better.

I could not have done it without all the help from here so thank you to everyone! :purple_heart: :blue_heart: :green_heart: :yellow_heart: :orange_heart:

So happy to see you got your Masked Tanuki. Reading through this thread was like a drama, I had to know how it turned out!
