Pet Battles: 4, 5, 6 (Switch, Trap, Forfeit) buttons aren't responding via hotkey- only click

This has got to be the most confusing bug I’ve dealt with in a while. I thought it was any of my ui addons like Bartender, Pet Battle UI Tweaks, or Rematch- or even outdated addons like NPC Scan which I’ve since removed, but nothing seems to fix it, even when the pet bar is completely in its default form.

The pet abilities on 1, 2, and 3 all work fine- but I have to click if I want to switch, Pass, trap, or forfeit. Like they don’t even register at all. When I press 4 to Switch, that button gets the soft blue/gray highlight, but nothing actually happens, the others don’t even respond whatsoever.

Has anyone had this issue before? And if so, what fixed it/was there an addon that fixed it or caused it that I’m clearly missing? Just feels so clunky having to click half the time but press buttons the other half.

edit: should clarify I have tried disabling ALL addons and the problem still persists

update: the plot thickens,

when I change my keybinds for ActionBar 1, the pet battle keybinds change to those- but for some reason 4 (switch) still doesn’t work even when rebinded, and… I don’t remember this being the case in previous expansions? Why is this happening?!

YES! I have been wondering about this myself. It is very annoying, I always used to just use my keybinds, but now only 1, 2, 3 work. Keybind for Switch, Cage, Forfeit don’t.
They all used to work, but they haven’t been working now for a while. Since Dragonflight release maybe? Since new UI updates? I can’t remember.

Abilities #4, #5, and #6 on the pet battle UI have never had a hotkey function ever since it was added to the game in the Mists of Pandaria expansion.  It’s stupid, it’s annoying and, unfortunately, working as intended.

“Battle Pet Binds” and “Battle Pet Tooltip Plus” were how I got around this. They significantly enhance the Pet Battle UI and also let you rebind the keys to whatever you want!
