Pet Battle Noob Needs Help :c

Hello everyone!

I want to start pet battling and collecting little pets but I need some help getting started. I have some questions:

What battle pets should I try and get for starting?
I have some charms, should I use them to boost those battle pets or should I just start collecting my little buddies?
Any other tips and tricks?

Any help would be appreciated, thank you

Everything you need to learn you can get at Xu-Fu. www wow-petguide com
And the key to organization and winning the same PvE battles is to get the addons… Rematch (to organize teams that are loaded when you target a tamer. AS well as a ton of cool stuff). tdBattlescript, which will allow you to import scripts so you can automate the battles. But don’t go beyond a hotkey to activate the next ability (ex… toggle etc…), that would be botting. Battle Pet BreedID shows you the type and family. Xu-Fu will fill in the blanks. Even a list there of best pets ranked in tiers and forums on PvP.

Get Iron starlette, Anubisath idol, Lil’ Bling, Ikky, Zandalari Anklerender, Terrible Turnip, Benax if you don’t have them yet. These are cageable pets and can be bought on the AH.

Go catch Nexus whelping, Unborn valkyr as they are BoP and not tradeable.

These are pretty much all I needed to start as a pet battle newbie in BfA.

Thank you! I downloaded the addons and will for sure check out that guide :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Alright, thank you! I think I have some of those already. Do you think it would be worth it to boost those to level 25? I think I have enough charms to boost 3 just from rares/quests.

Oh yeah… Pet Journal Enhanced. Can filter by drop, quest, expansion, make your own filter, etc… Awesome when the number of pets in collection gets high. Especialy since cap was removed. btw, speed is probably the most important. Health second for the families that are slower.
(there is also mount and toy journal enhanced addons if your going to be collecting all around)

Edit: Don’t get too crazy with addons if you have an older machine. Also, watch out you don’t load conflicting addons. It wont damage anything but makes the collection interface buggy if there is.

Forgot to note that I am someone who only started doing pet battles to earn rep for flying by doing Pet Battle World Quests, rather than focused on collecting pets or doing pet battles with other players.

Therefore my tips might be more related to winning the Pet Battle WQs & may not be as useful as much, as far as collecting pets goes … with that being said, I wouldn’t go ham on blindly boosting any pets to lv25, as some pet battles are much much easier to win on level 1 pets.

For example, pets like Ikky, Unborn Valkyr, Nexus Whelping etc. are definitely useful as a lv 25. However, some pets like Lil’ Bling and Iron Starlette can both be very useful and strong as a lv 1 and a lv 25, so I have them available for each occasions. (as you can hold 3 of each.)

no, leveling is easy once you get some big hitters to 25, and WQ’s will give leveling stones, so save your charms for pets first, then hoard them till you know they are bringing in a new charm… Rematch and a battle pet breed ID are a must. start with WQ’s, in BFA and SL, the opposing teams scale to your highest level pet in your team, so you can just throw level 1’s at em. go out and capture wild pets, dont worry about rarity levels, make sure you are getting the best breed of them, and use those WQ blue stones to upgrade them. you can use charms on those too, but id stick with getting pets first.

watch for Super Squirt Day, where Squirt is up and its Pet Battle XP Week. you can get lvl 6 pets to 25 in 2 wins. a Mechanical Pandaren Dragonling and Lil Bling are who i use for leveling pets during SSD. also youtube is your friend for WQ and Master tamers. just look them up, and follow the team and strat, or as close as you possibly can. sometimes youll have to try multiple strats from different tubers, as they have made lots of changes to pets over the years, so the more recent the video the better.

sorry for being long winded. i never thought id like pet battles, but i got pretty addicted. Welcome to the addiction!

np and oh yeah, other things to get, Anubisath Idol is a champ, Terrokar Hatching is great for leveling other pets, infact i use those two as my main teamates for leveling. Idol is from AQ and seems to drop pretty often, Terrokar Hatchling is from a treasure in WoD (i think thats where he is off the top of my head, from a nest). for capturing pets, Grumpy is from a super easy short quest near Bradenbrook in Legion, super bark hits hard but wont drop a pet below 1 health. with those 3, you can level and capture pets pretty easy.

if i think of anymore ill pass it along.

oh yeah, check the black market AH every day, some super rare TCG pets can be on there and are useful. if you have the gold to do it… in BFA i probably spent more than 800k gold on those pets lol, but i got all of them now!

For the unborn valkyr you might have better luck if you go look for her on a dead server cause there will only be one up at any given time.

Woot, I got those you mentioned in the first paragraph already. I gotta get leveling before pet week is over! Thanks for mentioning that Rosewhakawa, I didn’t even notice lol

I am actually not a fan of pet battle bonus weeks, as the bonus XP makes my level 1 pets reach level 2, which makes them “useless” to me, as I would have liked to keep certain pets at level 1, if that makes sense…

OP : In addition to my list on post #3 and the Mechanical Pandaren Dragonling that Bloodninja also mentioned, pets like Darkmoon Zeppelin, Fel Flame, Chrominius, Twilight Cluctch-Sister, Core Hound Pup and Biletoad are also great pets that brings you wins.

Muar, Nuts, Scuttle, Comet, Sinister Squashling, Fungal Abomination, Void-Scarred Anubisath, C’Thuffer are great as lv 1 pets to win SL World Quests to collect more pet charms & Blue Stones for your pets.

Terrible Turnip is a great pet to have that would not end up killing the pet you are trying to capture with its Weakening Blow talent.

How do you keep them at lvl 1? Do you just need to keep getting new ones?

As for World Quest pet battles, on normal weeks, you gain half a level if you win. Then you cage it, relearn it and it will come back as a brand new level 1 pet.

On bonus pet battle weeks, if you win the WQ, your pet is now level 2 and there’s nothing you can do about it :sob:

A tip I found useful many times.

This is a fast leveling strat, especially during pet week, but is efficent even outside of the event.

When Squirt is up at the pet menagerie in your WoD garrison with a pet healer just a few steps away.

With the safari hat buff plus the bonus from the pet battle weekly event, you can level a pet from 1 to 25 in two matches against her. (The other pet exp items are not worth taking/using, as either way it still will take 2 matches.)

Here are some teams that work well for this.

Bronze Whelpling + Widget the Departed + leveling pet

Enchanted Broom + Weebomination or Boneshard + leveling pet

Alpine Foxling Kit or Worg Pup + Ghastly Kid or Ghostly Skull + leveling pet

The specifics for each teams moves can be found on wowhead, I can copypasta it here if people ask nicely. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Good luck!

I also started with pets late in my WoW life. Here’s a list of the top 20 “best” pets (according to their users, but seems pretty accurate):

Many are easily obtainable. Hit up wowhead if it’s not otherwise obvious.

~https://www.warcraftpets.com is one of the best sites for everything on Battle Pets.

Go drag the image at the link below to your desktop. I use it constantly. It’s especially handy using level 1 pets against WQs in SL, because you only have a single talent and it had better be based in the family that does the most damage against each pet from the team you’re fighting:

Also, wowhead has some great strategies in the comments of each WQ and Daily Pet Quests with turn-by-turn strategies if you’re fighting with level 25 pets.

And as others have said, I highly recommend Rematch and Battle Pet Breed ID.

Oh… Spiders and Frogs are great because they’ve got a heal.

The two best tips I can give you (and others have already mentioned them):

  1. Get the Terrible Turnip. I bought mine off the auction house I think. He lets you safely capture pets without the worry you’ll accidentally kill them.

  2. Watch for Super Squirt Day at your Garrison (if you have one). You need a few specific pets as helpers, and you also need either the safari hat or some pet treats (to give you bonus xp), but as long as you have them, you can level any pet from 1 to 25 in two battles!

Good luck!!!

Welcome to pet battles

I haven’t really got too much to add since most of the important stuff has already been mentioned.

I do have one thing and that’s the very cool addon called Collect Me. It werks for pets, mounts and toys and you can set it up so you can have your favorite pet auto spawn when you start walking. Saves having to click on the icon. And it has heaps of other options as well.

Have fun!
