Hi all. Been doing pet battling so far. I like it a lot. But I am not getting very much experience for my class
Does the experience get better later on? I am a level 2 orc shaman with about 9 level 3 pets. I will keep leveling my pets but the experience feels very bad for my shaman levels.
Any pet battle advice is welcome. Thanks. Also I have a few heirlooms and some gold.
I only did it for leveling a little bit, but from what I remember, EXP is low at first and you get more when you fight 2 and 3 opponents. Should start seeing 3 when they're level 15. Before then you'll still want to quest/explore/gather ores & herbs/cooking & fishing dailies, and watch for the pet battle quests if you haven't done them yet, IIRC those first appear when you're level 5.
Tamer dailies give good character and pet EXP at higher levels. Pandaria and Draenor still should for 80+, I don't remember how Outland and Northrend were for 60-80 but it's probably worthwhile too.
Pets also need to be within 5 levels of the opponents to get EXP. The heirloom EXP buff should still apply for character leveling, and if you've just started collecting pets, you can use the gold to invest in some that aren't normally available to you until later in the game. There are many must-haves, but the Terrible Turnip is a good one to get early on because it has an ability that won't kill the opponent, so it's really handy for capturing wild pets. Check the pet's level before buying too, you can't use it if you don't already have one at that level.
If you haven't already, be sure to check out the Pet Battles forum, and bookmark WarcraftPets.com and wow-PetGuide.com. The latter has a lot of great strategies for the tamer dailies so you can rack up a steady amount of EXP later, and they all have info and recommendations on useful addons. PetJournalEnhanced and PetTracker were two of my favorites.

Thank you.
Also there are treats that you can feed you pet to increase XP gain for "x" amount of time.
XP for the pets that is, not you.

I actually tried leveling by pet battles.
I'm a pet collector and I like pve pet battles but I don't recommend trying to level exclusively by pet battling because it can be very repetitive. It can help (see a pet while you're out questing, TIME TO FIGHT).
The amount of xp you get from a wild pet fight is equivalent to a low value/risk quest with some caveats
1. Assuming you win. losers get zilch.
2. Assuming your team is very close in level and quality to the pets you're fighting.
3. The xp for winning scales with your level, regardless of the zone.
4. capturing the other pets doesn't change your xp.
The further apart your team is to the other pets, the less xp you get. If you field 3 level 25 rare quality pets against against a level 1 pet, you will get no xp.
Fighting a daily pet trainer is worth the most xp because you get xp for winning and you get xp for the quest.
The biggest problem with pet battle xp is the availability of wild pets to fight. On the whole it really doesn't become worth the effort to actively seek out pet fights until you're in a level 21+ pet zone (mop/cata territory) and in a spot where there are a ton of wild pets an nothing else to interfere.
Pandaria, west of Halfhill is a farm that has almost no mobs but a ton of rapidly respawning crickets. There is also a Pet Master to fight for a daily (if you've unlocked Pandaria pet trainers). I could do 30+ pet fights per hour. But after 1 hour the repetition became too much for me.
Challenging your buddy to a Pvp pet dual gets you no xp. I can't remember if queuing up for a random pvp pet match (which you do from the Pet tab in collections) will get you any xp, but queue time is horrible and the guys you fight are brutal. Someone with a starter team will get stomped.
