Personal opinion; I think Northrend-Dalaran should be removed, and Legion-Dalaran given a small revamp

Here’s the thing; Dalaran inherently “breaks” the world. It exists in two different places simultaneously, which means that the world will ALWAYS have a weird time-break, no matter what. The only way to fix that is to remove one or the other.

Now, here’s the thing; I KNOW this is actually a lot of work. There are quest NPC’s associated with both versions of Dalaran. However, I do have a solution in mind.

See, NORTHREND’S version of Dalaran doesn’t actually have THAT many quests associated with it. The NPC’s that are there, could simply be moved. I would personally build a very simple Kirin Tor settlement , either in Crystalsong Forest or at the end of the “Path of the Titans”, overlooking Crystalsong Forest.

Just move the quest-related NPC’s down to the Kirin Tor settlement, maybe spruce it up just a tiny little bit, and you’re done.

Now, for LEGION’S Dalaran; because there are SO many quests associated there, it would just be wildly impractical to change it. What I might consider doing, though, is maybe it feel a little more grounded in the setting itself, maybe having them “land” it right beneath where it currently hovers.

My reasoning is simple; as fantastical as it might seem, I personally feel like it crosses the line of “immersion” to simply being wildly impractical.

I would also use it as an opportunity to maybe make a couple of SMALL improvements. Maybe Krasus’ Landing is repaired, and all of the Class Hall portals are moved there. When you enter the “center tower” or whatever, that’s where you can move some of the more obscure portals (the ones Legion-Dalaran used to have, and probably Argus as well). I’d probably also restore the Capital-city portals for each Faction.

Also, I might also suggest breaking down the “walls” entirely (except around Violet Hold), since I feel like that could give you a really nice view of the horizon over the water.

Dalaran has always been probably my favorite city, and I imagine a lot of players would echo that sentiment. I’d love to see it given a more permanent home though, and given how deeply it is tied specifically to the Legion expansion, I think that makes sense to have at its new home. Giving it a few little touch-ups along the way, I think it would help with the growing focus on world-building.

  1. Northrend Dal is the current Dal.
  1. It doesn’t though, Azeroth has always existed in multiple times, at the same time. When you’re in Legion zones, you’re back in Legion. When you’re in SW/Org you’re in the current timeline which is why there’s no portal to Legion Dal, because it’s back in Northrend.

Unfortunately, not true. It’s all head-canon. While rare, there are instances of quests sending you to different locations.

I mean, the Legion class-mount for DK’s has you traveling back to Northrend. It’s not like it’s telling me to speak with a member of the Bronze Dragonflight in order to go back in time so I can visit Northrend; it’s just accepted that Northrend is a PLACE, and you can visit there at any time. But it just becomes awkward when you have Dalaran in two places at the same time.

Who cares really? You know you can still hear a conversation between Varok Saurfang and Garrosh Hellscream yeah? Both are dead. Garrosh is even ultra dead.

Both storylines don’t work if Dalaran isn’t there. But phasing has been a thing since WOTLK and it isn’t a huge thing to do to just wrap up those expansions with Dalaran moving back to the crater and leaving a generic city hub for players to return to for retro content.

Characters, it makes a bit more sense. That’s just the nature of phasing.

But I think having a literal city in two different locations… feels weird. You technically have something similar going on with Acherus, but even that I wouldn’t mind seeing get a more permanent home.

lmao what? No, it’s not head-canon, that’s how WoW has always worked.

Nobody said Northrend isn’t a place, we went back there at the start of Shadowlands.
Did the DK quest send you to speak to a NPC in Dal Northrend? no? didn’t think so.

I can’t tell if I’m being trolled right now, because jfc.

I say nuke all of Azeroth and add in all new modern quests, thousands and thousands of them. And then say “WoW 2” guys we did it! Woooooo!

WoW’s biggest expansion ever: WoW 2!

I see no difference between Dalaran being present in an old zone and characters being present in an old zone. I also see no difference between Dalaran’s presence in that zone and any and every other detail that marks those zones as being in the past. If Dalaran’s location is untenable, then the presence of hostile blue dragons should be, too.

In any case, I don’t think Dalaran’s presence in multiple locations is an issue, and I would prefer none of them be removed unless the entire area is revamped.

Isn’t Dalaran canonically back in Northrend ever since Shadowlands prepatch, anyway?

Northrend Dal has an AH by the engineering trainer. Does the legion Dal?

I can understand your opinion, the world does not always change with the events we go through or see in the game. I am actually pretty ok with it because it is what I’m familiar with and enjoyed back then. Something nostalgic about old dalaran.

The real reason most likely would involve the huge amount of work they would have to implement to keep everything updated. It’s easier to simply see multiple / alternate versions of something. There are entire zones we can choose to see old versions of.

Seems a bit odd. But even now you can make a Zandalari character, speak with queen talanji, and hop right into the quests to rescue princess talanji from Stormwind… after you receive a letter from slyvanas that she references your races strength during the battle of dazar’alor. :face_with_spiral_eyes:

Khadgar exists in outlands, in WOD, AND Legion AND BFA :sunglasses:

Where are you reading this lore because I cant find anything claiming this at all there’s an interview that says the following and it was during MoP but after Legion theres nothing I can find says its in Northrend

  1. ^ Vanion’s interview with Dave Kosak - “So, in present-day, Dalaran is in motion and we don’t say where and we are not sure if we show it in-game somewhere else. Yet we have not decided.”

That link is dated Feb 2013 lol

Northrend Dal doesn’t need to be removed.

When you’re in Northrend, none of the Legion events have happened yet. Gameplaywise, each zone is statically in its own time, or we couldn’t really go back and revisit those places.

If you make an alt and play through Northrend, the story is as if Wrath is still current.

This post almost but not quite reminds me of the No Flying in Wrath Classic post.

The only thing I wish was still working is the shutup Rhonin addon because his Ulduar speech goes off at least 10 times while I am there. I like to go to both versions of Dalaran to fish in the fountain just for fun.
