Hey folks,
I play GCD locked classes (Rogue & Warrior) and ever since Dragonflight came out I’m fighting constant input lag spikes.
Here is a short video that perfectly shows the problem (not me playing but looks exactly like this): GCD is clipping and lagging like crazy
The problem worsens with haste levels: While un-buffed (20%-30% haste), every 2nd to 3rd ability I use takes 200-500ms to actually come out. Additionally, the GCD shadow/swirly/dial doesn’t get displayed/triggered during the input lag and then all of a sudden gets displayed at 1/4 or even 1/2 progress when the ability finally comes out.
It’s the worst during lust phases when the GCD is <=1s, rotations are extremely difficult to play.
Both my world & home latency is usually between 40-60ms. My PC is a 13th Gen i7 with a 4080 and 512GB SSD or a MacBook Pro with M1 Max. My internet connection is a symmetric 1G line.
Here is what I have tried so far:
- Tried on both Windows and macOS
- Disabled add-ons
- Experimented with the spell queue window (0-400ms)
- Wipe OS and only install WoW
- Tried WiFi and Cabled
- By-passed router and directly connected to the modem (no NAT)
- Analyzed a tcpdump packet capture which didn’t reveal excessive latency spikes (I’m a network admin by day)
- Switched ISPs (Comcast (old) vs. Google Fiber (new))
Searching through the forums and the general WWW I found a bunch of reports for this exact same issue (new users can only post 2 links but I can produce about 5-7):
Widespread input lag/ GCD delay since Dragonflight expansion start
I’m at a point where I have nothing else to try. Help
