Perpetual Companion Pets

In FF14, your companion pets stay out all the time. When they disappear, they come back asap. To achieve this same thing in WoW, I had to write a few hundred lines of code, and summoning your pet eats the GCD. This should just be like how it is in FF14.

looks at my pets. looks at my battle pet

So which ones are disappearing on you?

When pets are a crucial part of your damage, having consequences where they can die is more meaningful. You are supposed make some effort to keep them alive, the changes made to summoning and reviving was to make you decide when its appropriate to sacrifice them.

Any “FFXIV does ______, so WoW should do it too.” suggestion should go in the trash.
I used to be open minded to having WoW implement good ideas from other games but FFXIV players killed that.

My mindset is usually the opposite.

“WoW does x, so FF XIV should do it too.”

Good luck saying THAT on their general discussion forums though. Their game is perfect, and Yoshi P is their god.

That term is normally used for battle pets. So can you clarify, are you talking about battle pets or hunter/warlock pets?

Wait…did you just admit to creating a code that alters the game? If so, do you realise how not allowed that is?

Get the addon Livestock.

Also several of em like to perch on you which is cute. WoW needs more than just the sloth to get on you.

Eh. Tried it. It’s hard to choose a pet. My addon just keeps whichever pet I have out summoned as much as possible.

Yeah that cult-like fanaticism for FFXIV is almost concerning. Every time I speak to a FFXIV player irl they are so hell bent on getting other people to play it that I wonder if they’re just looking for validation.

Like the followers we had in past expansions

Happens to me a lot for no reason.

I’m sorry, did you just broke a major rule?

I’m pretty sure he’s talking about an addon that just resummons the pet when it disappears. Unless you believe that UI addons also break the rules because they ‘alter the game’.

In his original post, it did not say anything about an addon, which is why I said that.

Sure, but a much more reasonable and charitable assumption is that he’s written an addon for himself–this is not an illegal thing. I just feel like you guys are really jumping the gun here. :frowning:

Both possibilities could be true. In fairness, those who break the rules tend to be the least intelligent among us. I’m not saying the OP is one of those people though, just that there are 2 possibilities. Either they made an add-on for themselves, or they just straight up altered the game’s code and admitted to it publicly.

Well, then, it would be good if he said “I had to create an add on” rather than “I had to write a few hundred lines of code”. Clarity is good, yes? And generally Add ons are accepted by Blizzard unless they do something that Blizzard finds unacceptable.

Not automatically. And clearly Blizz disagrees since they’re adding the trust system, added flying at cap back in and have moved Xmog restrictions ever closer to 14’s glamours.

Things that should NOT be copied is their ridiculous housing system. WoW can do it way better.
