Back in 2009 my main account was banned for using Glider, that account had a main that held a deep sentimental value for me. The only excuse I have was that I was young and had no clue how much I actually cared. The ban was a permanent ban, so I will never get my character back. I think a lot of people are under this same boat, while it’s for account sharing, boost or other dumb things that got them banned… This has either made them stop playing all together or stop enjoying the game.
Right away most will say well we don’t want those kind of players or they deserve the permanent ban. However my argument is most of these people were pretty much minors when they screwed up and I believe these accounts should be u banned with some kind of restriction.
There is now presecedant that people will be banned for 60 days, 180 a year etc. Rarely is it a permanent ban.
Unbanning all the accounts that were banned prior to the new system would make it to where all those accounts have served a 2 year ban minimum and give a lot of players the opportunity to return. While this is only a game many of us sank hours and hours of our youth into these characters and knowing the consequences will prevent people from repeating mistakes some have made 10+ years ago.
I hope someone at blizzard reads this and take it under serious consideration. #secondchance

Devs probably aren’t going to change their standards of discipline based on a forum post on GD, especially when it breaks the forum’s ToS to even discuss this topic.
My advice, worry about yourself and not their standard of conducting business. Contact CS or file a ticket and see if they’re sympathetic to your situation.
But if you’re talking about an account that was permabanned in 2009 the likelihood is that there probably isn’t even any data anymore that they can restore for you.
Man, back in the day when real bans actually happened. The last real ban wave we saw was back in MoP.
Cheat back then… perma BAN.
Cheat today… suspension.

If you got a perma ban in WoW that means you did something pretty bad, the WoW team is pretty chill.

No it doesn’t, actually. Back in the day if you botted you got your account perma banned. Today if you bot you get a suspension. Back in the day Blizzard didn’t play with perma bans. Today it’s a joke.

That’s because they need the subs.

They claim that banning cheaters makes them cheat while suspending cheaters makes them not cheat. lol

Do the crime, do the time. Age isn’t an excuse.

I had two characters from vanilla restored earlier this year. I was very surprised that it worked, but it allowed me to unlock GM transmogs for my Warrior and Paladin.
Also, perma ban should be permanent.

There’s a reason the word “permanent” was included in your ban. They’re not going to reverse it.

They need to let some of that chill rub off on these forum mods who suspend and ban over their own biases instead of REAL infractions

Sorry but if you get a permanent ban, you either something really bad or you did several things wrong and they finally had it with you. People need to accept that their bad behavior has consequences and move on.

Yeah, because Blizzard used to actually ban, that’s why that word is in there. Now that’s almost unheard of.
If you/they read the ToA/ToS before clicking then you/they would have known that it was illegal and you would never had been banned it is pretty straight forward. If you start adding breakdowns in punishment for offenses we will need to start forming councils and handing out punishments depending on the severity.
No we don’t need a system like that we just need to read the rules and follow them. Ignorance is not a defense, people are old enough to buy the game and read the rules. There really is no excuse for what you did or didn’t do.

That’s because the game had 4-12m subs back in the day, when you’re at like 1.5-3m (being generous with the 3) you think twice about losing that much $$$.
What is lifting bans from back then going to hurt really? More purple the better at this point IMO.

Somehow I doubt a lot of people have permabanned accounts.
