It would add variety to play style, interaction with PvE and PvP. Much like a hunter or warlock.
Integration through talents or simply being baseline. Add a Lone Wolf trade-off through damage increase/reduction.
Aesthetic-wise this can also allow for various looks via customization, wardrobe style.
There could also be interesting opportunities for ascendance interactions with this as well.

And most people dont like it. Using wolves is a chore at best sadly.
Our totems are supposed to be our bread and butter and are absolutely garbage, i dont want an elemental pet making us a generic lock or hunter. Our damage progile is already worn too thin wigh convoluted rotations, adding a perma pet would pull away from our already low per hit damage because they gave us borked masteries
I like having wolves up all the time! They look cool attacking along side you.
But I have to disagree as far as making elementals a permanent pet. I feel as though there are too many pets and summons in the game already, and there are already two full time pet classes as well as unholy which is a pet spec.
I think they should just keep it as it is now. With the right talents and making good use of surge of power you can have fire ele up almost permanent. I do think earth elemental should have a much lower cd though.
Last season of Shadow Lands basically gave you permanent up time
Tbh if I am keeping wolves up perma, I’m straight up over summoning them via a global.

Yes either this or a vision of perfection variant so that we can get primal elemental procs. But I think having a perma pet would make way more sense thematically and via gameplay. How does a mage get an elemental pet when shaman are meant to have a greater attunement to the elements but shaman can’t maintain it for longer than 30 seconds?.. Seems dumb.
As enhance it makes even more sense since you’ve basically got 100% uptime on wolves anyway so just save the abundance of GCDs and let them be permanent.
From a PvP perspective, kite and line of sight. Have the elemental and flame shock work at a target while I weave in instant lava bursts.
Keep an enemy from capping a flag while sapped etc.
Folks, I’m saying to have the option to not throttle the shaman and force them to use the elemental to stay meta or relevant.
Optional, not mandatory or in any way have consequences to damage output/DPS.
Then make it a PVP talent I guess
I just would prefer it not be a thing for pve
