Permanent dark fog effect around screen on one character

Hello,

I’d like to report a persistent visual bug affecting only one of my character. After completing the Legend Walker Cho questline (involving the Lich King phase in Northrend), my character became stuck with a dark fog effect around the screen.

Issue details:

  • The dark visual aura remains permanently on the screen while playing the character.
  • It disappears temporarily when:
    • The character dies and becomes a ghost;
    • Entering the Barber Shop;
  • But it returns as soon as the character resurrects or leaves the Barber Shop.
  • The bug does not happen with any other character on the same account.

What I’ve already tried:

  • Fully reset UI (as per Support Article 000007549);
  • Disabled and removed all addons and addon managers (CurseForge, etc);
  • Deleted/reset the character-specific folder in WTF directory;
  • Died and released spirit;
  • Used visual override toys;
  • Tried /reload, and /run to inspect auras;
  • Repaired game files via Battle.net;
  • Contacted Game Masters via ticket.

GM Response:

I was told by GM Swoshlyer that this is a known bug and that the development team is already aware and working on a fix. I was also instructed to report this issue here on the forums so the team can continue investigating affected accounts.

I don’t have a fix and I really hope your character can become un-foggrd soon. I just wanted to say thank you for posting a well written, detailed, helpful bug report.

QA folks everywhere are likely shedding a tear of joy. It’s a beautiful thing.

Edit: It’s likely not, but just in case, is there a debuff/buff you can cancel on your characters buff’s bar?

Yes, I’ve already checked for visible buffs/debuffs — nothing shows up on the buff bar, and I even tried /run scripts to print active spell IDs on the character, but there was nothing unusual I could cancel.

I also tested dying, spirit form, toys, UI reset, and even renaming the character folder in the WTF directory. The fog temporarily disappears when in ghost form or while at the barber, but it always comes back after.

Really hoping this gets patched soon — and thanks again for the support!

Ohh one other suggestion, try queuing for an arena! They basically wipe your character of status effects to make an even playing field.

You don’t have to actually join the PvP if you don’t want, you can leave. But that has been suggested and worked in the past for invisible “buffs” and such.

I just tested queuing for a Skirmish Arena — went in, waited a bit, and left — but unfortunately, the dark fog effect is still there after leaving the arena.

It was definitely worth trying though, and I really appreciate you taking the time to help. If I find anything else that works, I’ll post an update here for sure.
