So a weird issue I noticed about a month ago and I can’t pinpoint the cause.
Periodically, I get a single little hiccup while playing. It’s not prolonged stuttering, it’s a single instance, and then everything else is fine - I don’t even notice an FPS drop in monitoring programs, it stays smooth. (I have it capped at my monitors refresh rate, 144fps). It’s not incredibly intrusive, but it is annoying me that my expensive system is having this issue that I’m unable to pinpoint.
Hardware:
10700k
3060ti
32 gigs @ 3200mhz
Game running off a 1tb 970 Pro SSD
Things I’ve tried:
Myriad of graphics settings, almost every combination possible
A hard UI reset as suggested in the FAQ (renaming WTF/Interface/Cache and regenerating)
Driver rollbacks & updates to several versions (currently on the most current Game Ready Drivers)
Disabling G-Sync in the Nvidia Control Panel, and running with G-Sync on
V-sync on/off
Frame caps matching my monitors refresh rate
It’s driving me bonkers that I cannot pinpoint this issue. Any advice would be incredibly appreciated. I will try to get a video when I wake up tomorrow to see if I can catch the issue in action.
Are you using any addons? I know a few addons can trigger a little bit of a stutter as they get loaded and any time they need to refresh.
Was hoping this thread was about the issue I’m having, the lag spikes I’m having with JUST classic WoW is driving me insane lol.
I noticed the same thing this weekend. It’s just a quick stutter if you will. Like if I am running it will be fine then just a quick like stutter step or something.
All I play is Classic these days. I noticed this small stutter as well. I thought I was imagining things at first. I noticed it a few months back - seems more frequent these days.

So, not to knock on wood, but I tried completely reinstalling the game, and wiping the entire thing from my drive and starting from scratch, and it seems less frequent, if not gone entirely. If it returns, I’ll post an update.
Hey, any chance you ever solved this or did you just learn to live with it? I’m having the exact same issue.
I do have some addons installed but I seem to have this issue regardless. It’s only in WoW. At first I thought it could be my USB DAC but that’s confirmed 100% to be non-stutter as I can play a constant tone at a low volume and hear that fine while wow stutters on top of that (just the occasional blip as you had mentioned).
I have noticed less (to possibly zero) stutter activity if I’m off in the middle of nowhere (coast of Stranglethron as an example) and there are no nearby players or other heavy npc-traffic. However as I move around, even in less populated zones, this becomes more frequent.
Posting specs, although, they are completely overkill for this game as it’s actually an editing rig. So I don’t suspect this to be any trouble but hey… never know. For what it’s worth, I’ve tried turning the memory back to non-xmp speeds and that had no effect on the stutter but did make the machine more sluggish so I re-enabled that. Also tried a pretty heavy OC on the GPU to see and that made 0 difference as one would expect. As far as CPU, the game barely loads up one core and it rarely even hits boost clocks so I didn’t bother messing with the CPU at all.
Intel 12900k (No OC, just XMP and confirmed 100% stable.)
GSkill 4000mhz c19 Memory (xmp1)
MSI Pro Z690-A DDR4
AMD 6900 XT
Samsung 980 Pro
Edit: Playing at 1440p @ 144hz and fps max capped at 145 to avoid excessive coil whine and heat/power waste. Occurs with or without VSYNC. Although, I generally play non-fps titles with VSYNC ENABLED.
P.S. Sorry for the necro… but this is the exact same issue I’m having.
I’ve found it! (probably)
Disabled all addons and that seemed to help but the issue was for sure still present. Spent the following many hours going through each setting possible in Radeon Software (and other things) to see what combination of things combined with whatever settings in the game could have caused this.
Long story short, just disabling “Radeon Enhanced Sync” seemed to fix the majority of it. For now, I have disabled this as well as “Radeon Anti-Lag” and I have not noticed any stutter, even with a slew of addons installed.
To re-create this issue, you can install an addon called “Addon Usage”. It’s basically a task manager view of cpu/memory for your addons. Open that up, then enable CPU monitoring as well as real-time update. With Radeon Enhanced Sync and Radeon Anti-Lag enabled, every time the Addon Usage addon does a perf-update the stutter happens. So you can get it to stutter about once per second or so. To fix, just disable those two settings in Radeon Software mentioned above and re-do the test. Make sure to disable this addon afterwards or it will likely cause other issues with the game as it’s just for addon development and troubleshooting purposes anyway.
Hope this can help someone else searching for this in the future. Cheers.
