[Performance] What am I doing wrong?

Hey all,

I’ve followed every instruction on the “Wow Performace Guide for Macs - Patch 8.0” thread but I don’t seem to get decent performance.

I shall say I’m playing from a Macbook Pro 2018 with the following specs:

macOS Mojave (10.14.1)
Processor 2,9 GHz Intel core i9
Memory 32GB 2400 Mhz DDR4
Graphic Card Randeon Pro 560X 4096 MB / Intel UHD Graphics 630 1536MB
Storage 1TB (843GB free) SSD

Most of the times game runs between 15 and 24 FPS, with sometime drops between 1 and 5 FPS. Occasionally and for very brief moments it gets up to 60FPS.

Not looking for stellar performarces, but I would like to have a smooth experience with decent graphics. Any tips?

Update to 10.14.2. Install Macs Fan Control as you are almost certainly hitting thermal throttling. Finally, run at low resolution (1440 by 900) – the graphics aren’t that much worse.

(I’ve got a 2014 15’’ and can get 30 fps doing the above – you should be able to do a bit better)

After following the performance guide, what settings are you actually using?

Should I focus the fan control on the CPU or GPU? I’m thinking that the CPU’s are a bigger focus now that the multi-threading has been enabled.

Also, does Macs Fan Control do a better job on their own or with a lot of fine tuning?

You want all of the fans up high. Just because the CPU got multithreading doesn’t mean that the GPU didn’t as well. And it’s never a good thing to let the GPU cook itself anyway. Kick up every fan. It’s cheaper to replace fans than it is the entire machine.

Though my MBP now runs its fans all the time, it seems like it’s working. I’ll find out more tomorrow when I venture into more content. Thanks a lot

Hey guys,

Thanks for all answers! Anyway it seems like it’s kinda fixed. I can now run the game between 30 and 60 FPS most of times, even though once or twice it dropped to 10 FPS for some instant.

I am noticing that sometimes it tends to randomly freeze but except these random problems for the most it’s running smoothly.
