Performance Issue Is it my PC?

I built a PC in June. Everything seemed to be working great. Took some time off of gaming and came back to Wow about a month ago and noticed I am having performance issues. In Valdrakken on my current settings I get about 45 fps on average. For comparison my M1 mac studio gets usually around 80 fps (to get a similar frame rate on my pc I have to turn the graphic setting to their minimum). This performance issues does not make any sense to me. My computer is pretty decent I have a ryzen 5 7600 cpu and a 6800 xt Gpu. I feel my desktop pc should be blowing my mac’s performance out of the water but its underperforming. Am I wrong about the performance I should expect based on my computer’s hardware?

And note I would just play on my mac but my razer mouse and gamepad don’t work great with it.

Also just to add I thought perhaps the issue was outdated drivers so I updated the drivers for my CPU, GPU and motherboard along with making sure my bios is up to date.

Double check all your drivers and if it continues try checking resolution. I know drivers can get outdated and recent updates could be buggy too. I’m on Nvidia but bad driver happeneven with them lol

That does not sound far off if you are running 4k and all options turned up. Im on a 5950 with a 3090 and in a busy square about 67 fps

these 2 errors are most likely causing your issue . When you updated your graphics driver did you do a clean install?

No, the last time I updated it it was auto-update, could you please try to explain to me what’s that?

This video goes through how to do a clean install step by step

I did all that’s explained in the video, it improved a little bit but still in the main cities where there are so many players FPS drops to around 50.

Major cities are CPU bound, and the intel 11th gen can struggle to keep up. My old config was an 11700k with a 3080, and I wasn’t getting full GPU usage, as it was waiting for the CPU to process the frame. (easy way to test either to use Intel presentmon, and check the frame time vs gpu busy graph, or lower the resolution in game and see if there’s a noticeable change in framerate).

I did solve this, but it was by having my board fail and replacing the 11700k with a Ryzen 7800x3d, which is probably overkill if everything’s working properly for you.

I’ve tried posting a few places about this but I can confirm that something changed after a game update in early December.

A year ago I specifically bought this PC to far outperform WoW as that’s all I planned on using it for and I had no frame rate loss at all until first part of December when suddenly I have a drop for 30-60 seconds when entering higher populated zones. Even the terrain will take a few seconds to pop in now.

I run nothing in the background (not even battlenet launcher) and use no addons.

It’s an nvidia card and I thought those weren’t having the issues that AMD cards are having. CPU is an i7 but those should still be fine?

I hope this can be resolved for all of us :+1:
