People who want the mage towers back

Because they didn’t want to or weren’t here when it was current content don’t understand what they’re asking for, I don’t think.

I’ve taken the occasional glance at achievements and progression stats through the armory here, which generally trends toward more casual play.

While some towers were easier than others, and eventually it was possible to gear past some of the challenges, they were still quite difficult.

  • You had to have your characters attuned to the tower.

  • You had to farm nethershards to enter.

  • You had to grind out the best gear you could between active towers…

… Especially any legendary pieces that could make or break a particular tower.

  • Stock up on enough food and pots to cover every run you could afford to use them on.

  • Finally enter the scenario, either prepared to spend a long time learning each step in each phase, or spend a long time memorizing a guide you read about it. You had to know the mechanics perfectly and occasionally have rng on your side.

  • Swap around your leggoes and other gear and stats to try to make what you got work for the tower, because as it turns out, you’ve got all the worst legendaries for the job and your stats are just under par.

  • Die 2 minutes in because you followed every step perfectly… Except one.

  • Get sent back out to try again, assuming you didn’t need to farm more nethershards or stock up consumables.

Especially earlier on, the towers were very difficult, perhaps comparable to the Dark Souls experience in some ways. I doubt seriously that Blizzard would consider bringing them back at all, let alone for the same rewards. But, I’m fairly confident it won’t be the ‘max level casually steam rolls content from 2 expacs ago to farm rare drops’ scenario some of you seem to think it will be.

I loved it as did many others, but it wasn’t a 5 minute legacy raid by any means.

I don’t think we should get it back, I think every expansion should have its own flavour of mage tower…

I was dissapointed BFA really didn’t have one, I think it gives people drive, I still remember in legion seeing a Guardian Druid in that werebear form and thought “damn he must be good”.

Maybe in Shadowlands tower of torghast will have something similar.

They weren’t hard. I power lvl’d dmg gf’s feral Druid from 100 to 110 in a single day, got her LFR gear (including the scythe), and finished the challenge with 4 hours left to go before they shut down the tower.

Some where easier then others, I think feral was the easiest one I got, I got it all on caster classes and specs, Druid, Priest, Mage, Priest, Shaman and Warlock.

I think the hardest ones where the healing specs for me since I didn’t heal.

I one shot BDK’s

Why did you feel the need to add another MT discussion thread when we have like 4 of them floating around?
I did read the post, by the way.
This easily could have been placed in any of the aforementioned threads. Granted, I used hyperbole for the exact number, but I don’t feel it’s too far off.

My sister struggled like hell with the mistweaver one, since it typically demands much that you don’t really expect from healers. But it was a great victory when she finally pulled it off.

I think Rank 4 essences are meant to be the new “status symbol” of this expansion. Or, at least, that was the original intention.

Are they effective as said status symbol? Absolutely not. I don’t think anything will ever beat exclusive druid forms or weapon skins. Hopefully we see more of that.

Some were easier than others. The arms challenge took me about 20 minutes between three attempts. The prot challenge took multiple tower cycles.

I missed them when they were live and it is what it is. Based on the OPs description though, they sound like a variant on this nightmare vision thing.

Similar, it was like a trial though, like you had to do everything, stun, kick, it was intense.

They were awesome, but that’s why I hope we get more similar things, like it doesn’t have to be the legion mage tower but new ones, more content the better!

Man I remember grinding the mage tower like crazy

Prot warrior was definitely difficult; more difficult than I expected for sure.

I remember how excited I was to get the leggo that gives an extra charge of Heroic Leap because it made the challenge just a little easier, but not by much.

Finally finishing the tower was a highlight for me.

i think they should get that try in the exact experience but thats my opinion, you talking about legendary pieces making or breaking a attempt reminded me of the warlock one and how it was needed for corruption t oslow or it was nigh impossible… i had to use a bug to exploit cause the legendary never dropped for me… good times and F the mage spear twins may they burn.

I was pretty bummed out that I didn’t get the only one I wanted. When I heard about the MT closing down, I had to level my druid, get decent with guardian, and then get a good IL to do the challenge. I couldn’t do it in time because the biggest challenge, was getting motivation to play WoW.

Still… I really wish I had that one form. Maybe I’d play WoW more if I did. :man_shrugging:t2:

Perhaps one day, a variant on the form will be available and I wont have to use the sky mirror.

I would say the visions are a very watered-down version of what the mage towers were. Mage towers were completely solo, so you didn’t have the option of having a friend give you a hand.

There was also only one difficulty, you couldn’t adjust up or down like you can with invsions. That is to say, either you were geared/good enough to do it or you weren’t. There weren’t any bonus objectives for you to do at your leisure- once you went in, either you did the whole thing or none of it, there was no consolation prize at the end for meeting just some of the objectives.

The healing mage tower was renowned for being extremely long long and difficult, because not only were you healing, but you had to be able to prioritize and micromanage healing, DPS and interrupts, all in the appropriate order. All said and done I think a clean run of that thing was at least 15 or 20 minutes, and that’s if you did everything right. Then during the final stage you had to keep your health at about 50%, so you had to really be careful about both over healing and under healing, because if you did either, you would wipe.

Uhh, ok. Guessing you didn’t do it when it first came out in Nighthold gear.

Edit - just checked, you got the achievement 15 months after the mage tower was released lol. So you were 50-60 ilvls higher than it was tuned for, with the fully unlocked, OP artifact and full Netherlight Crucible.

I am as casual as it comes and I got all but blood DK and Holy Pally skins. It doesn’t take a genius to watch a tutorial video. Though some were way way harder than others. like fury warrior and sub rogue almost had me breaking my keyboard out of frustration lol.

I think the closest thing is the FoS for soloing 5 masks, but corruption effects have really broken a lot of the content so… I don’t know. Who cares about anything this patch?

This. I did it on my fury warrior with full LFR gear with elisande and guldan trinkets. Watched bajheera do it on youtube and repeated the process, 1 shot.

What you just typed her completely nullifies the OP’s claims on why they shouldn’t bring it back. They need to add the tower to time walking and be done with it and throw a limit of attempts daily, if you fail all 5 tries then best of luck tomorrow. That gives people 35 attempts before the time walking event ends and they have to wait another 5 months for it to come back around or longer.

Edit: You can still farm the pvp skins of the artifact. Takes 80 honor levels to unlock them all.
