I don’t mean to knock other peoples’ RP and all that but… is it too soon for this?
We don’t even have details about what these beings are like. I like the concept but the Shadowlands haven’t even actually opened yet have they? How did these people get here?
There are currently a few people playing these in Stormwind right now just kicking it at the tavern, hanging out like nothing is out of the ordinary.
I LOVE seeing the enthusiasm and I’m hyped for Shadowlands too but it feels like it’s too early… Maybe I’m wrong.

Yes. And no. It comes down to preference. There’s nothing inherently wrong with flying blind, and since it’s pretendy fun times there’s no immediately identifiable qualifiers as for “too soon”.
That said, people are perfectly in their right to find it strange. It is, by all accounts, a niche style. No one has to interact with those people if they so choose not to. On the flip side, these people also don’t deserve to be harassed. Common sense and courtesy rules all still apply.
As far as personal opinion goes… Simply put, I wouldn’t trust anyone I didn’t already have a healthy rapport with doing something as needlessly vain as jumping the gun on new content. There’s going to be an entire expansion and someone making the conscious decision to play trendsetter or flavour of the month is not the sort I would personally be interested in dealing with.

My personal approach would be to quietly avoid them and move on. Way too soon, imo. It’s not my $15, sure. But nor am I obliged to RP with them, and I won’t. That stuff breaks my immersion big time.

It’s the same with people RPing as if they already know about the Shadowlands. Just let them do their thing and move on.

People been RPing as dragons and high elves and vulpera since Warcraft 1 so I’m inclined to let people do whatever they want. Their objectively nonsensical RP is not going to bother me because I exclusively RP with myself in an inn in dustwallow marsh as a flag post with no flag, so a stick in the mud

Yeah, I think it’s jumping the gun a bit for my tastes. I’m not going to bother anybody about it, but I personally try to avoid implementing meta-knowledge into my roleplay via content that we know about as people but isn’t fully represented in game yet.

Also: I know of people who are RPing Vulpera, though not the same since we know what they are like, and they aren’t coming from an unreleased xpac…
We’ve had crazier ideas floating around for years, like the mythical vampire-cat-girl.

@Sashatrix I didn’t stick around to see if they explained how they got there and how they’re able to hang around. One was a High Elf that died before the First War though and now came back to Stormwind. Two people were RPing as an order of mages from Oribos that sell souls or something. One was knowledgeable about everything that happened in Azeroth up to BfA and one had no memory of anything.
I agree it does sound interesting and I enjoy seeing people explore the outer reaches of the lore, but I can’t help but think anything established now before most of the expac is revealed will end up being outright wrong or “lore-breaking” when Shadowlands actually drops.
We’re they doing this RP over the holidays? Maybe they we’re using it as an excuse for the viel has thinned, we’ve got forebears visiting. /shrug
No it was happening last night.
Maybe I’m more easily amused but that sounds entertaining enough, as long as they didn’t harvest and sell in town.
I was also thinking their characters will likely change once they get into shadowlands. Of course, if it doesn’t that’s not always a bad thing.

Taverns are the place to go to RP as Hank Hill or as your big tiddie anime waifu. RPing as someone from the Shadowlands is pretty tame for all things considered.

Just ignore 'em and move on. That’s what I do. Obviously you can’t police other people’s RP, but I agree that it is ridiculous for people to be playing these characters before they even exist or are a confirmed part of the Alliance/Horde.
World of Warcraft gives you a lot of room to pretty much roleplay a LOT of special, unique, interesting characters. I don’t really understand why people feel the need to go the extra mile to be even SPECIAL-er than anyone else, as if that makes their character more interesting.
I also don’t really understand how they expect us to engage with them? Like, they know the Shadowlands stuff hasn’t happened yet, right? How are we supposed to engage with a character claiming to be from the Shadowlands when at this point we have literally never once seen one of the denizens of Maldraxxus, Bastion, Revandreth, or Ardenweald leave the Shadowlands?
Also, yknow, being an otherworldly creature you probably wouldn’t get past the gates of Stormwind, but I guess most people just pretend guards don’t exist unless a roleplayer playing as a guard actually walks up to them so shrug.

I think it’s safe to say that none of the factions in the Shadowlands are either faction. Factions are a part of the living squabbles, they’re dead and celestial beings.

Also I was toying with the idea of having a DK be a soul from Maldraxxus, but remember nothing of it, and only have a vague inkling of something being off; she would remember more of her former life than anything from her afterlife.
Sylvannas hasn’t kicked down the doors to the Shadowlands yet that we know of, so I don’t know how anyone can slip through and be like, “yeah! I 'm from x-place and this is all happening right now and we need help! We need you to go back to the future Marty!”
