People on my server are kneeling for a suicide that happened

I logged in to find this going on.

Apparently, Rekful, a popular streamer, suffered depression and bullying. I know there’s folks out there that struggle, I do as well, and I think it’s important to remind people:

  1. If you play multiplayer games, there will be jerks. These jerks will get a bug up their rear, and try to go above and beyond to make you feel like garbage. Remember, these people don’t have an immediate effect on your life. Ignore them. Use that option to your advantage. If you feel yourself slipping, there’s no shame.

  2. There’s absolutely no reason to kill yourself. Live life, remember it, cherish the good and the bad. There will be bad days, there will be good days. But suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem.

  3. Think about the people you’re leaving behind. Your parents, your friends, your loved ones, even your pets! Why leave them to pick up the pieces of tragedy you leave behind?

  4. Get help. There are hotlines, there are communities, and there are assistance programs to help you get out of that funk. You just gotta look. Even the suicide hotline can help you.

You’re not alone in your struggles. Think before you act, because this is the most permanent decision of your life, and it’s often made based on a moment of despair. Live life, think of your family, be logical, and seek help. You can get through rough patches.

Stay safe.

Same here on Moon Guard.
The server is CHUGGING from the sheer amount of people attending, especially those from off-server.

Pretty sure they don’t know what actually happened yet. Someone just started punting around the rumor of a suicide.

Oh look, another bad take by someone who isn’t educated in mental health but is an expert on it anyway.

Just don’t talk when you don’t know what you’re talking about.

What did he say that was wrong?

I think the op has good intentions but victim blaming is not the way to go with these situations.

Depression and other mental illness isn’t about your perspective on life.

Literally everything he’s saying is, “Just think about other and be logical and you’ll be okay” but it’s not about that. It’s not just “hey cheer up buddy.”

Mental illness is inherently irrational, it’s illogical. People already ARE thinking of those things, they already ARE trying to be logical, but the ILLNESS part of it is why that doesn’t just solve everything.

You can’t get rid of it with lame platitudes, if you could it wouldn’t be an illness.

You make it sound Like I don’t struggle with it. The thought of it subsiding is what gets me through it. I am not going to go into my conditions, but rest assured, I know.

What do you think therapists say to them
Some magic words?

Then you should know that all of this “think of others” “just be logical” stuff you said is actually nonsense.

Therapy isn’t an end-all solution to mental illness either, and you do know there is much more to “therapy” than just talking to a professional, I would hope.

So, no logic
No therapist
What do you suggest?

You’ve missed what I’ve said entirely, but you’re clearly just here to argue some bad faith argument for whatever kicks you get from it.

I am sorry but what is the alternative to blaming the murderer/victim? I’m not trying to be confrontational but it seems strange to use “victim blaming” when normally that’s meant for a victim who didn’t want the crime to happen and didn’t commit a crime.

You didn’t say anything, which is my point.

Shame on the people who flagged this thread. You’re part of the problem honestly. Being overly defensive over people who have problems you don’t experience. As someone who has suffered from schizophrenia, and clinical depression for over 40 years, I wasn’t offended at all by this post. It was honest, and tactful. There was no ill will intended, but you all reacted like this was Twitter or something.

You all cheer when players line up a bunch of toons for a mock memorial (which are fine in and of themselves), but someone here lays down some real s*** and you all act like jerks about it.

I’m schizophrenic and depressive, I studied mental illness in High School when I was diagnosed. I know fairly well what I’m talking about. And so does the OP. Nothing they said here hasn’t also been told me by psychiatrists and psychologists.

"Look at the bright side and “Be logical” doesn’t help anyone, so calling this “real s***” is disingenuous and condescending. As someone who has PTSD and MDD, it’s very easy to see through these comments.

No it isn’t. As a contrarian, it may be. He didn’t say either of those things. Reducing the entire message to those things is a lazy strawman and you know it.
