People in +2 keys after watching "their idol," do a +14 are wild to play with

So the numbers themselves aren’t super exact but I think you’ll all know what I mean. It happens most right after MDI but it can happen anytime if people are watching streamers do keys.

You’ll be in some random +2 pug and that guy is like "okay first I’m triple pulling those, pop heroism. Then I will get those two packs make sure we kick everything. Then we are going to invisible backflip skip the next pack. Ready!!!’

Flash forward 3 minutes you’ve wiped twice, he called everyone else a scrub and you’re back to LFG.

It really is the difference between a coordinated team and a group of individuals on full display when the latter tries to copy the former.

I really dont miss keys, specially after listing my key, and watching a tank or healer sign up with super low ilvl player with no io

You often can do a triple first pull with lust, but everyone in the group needs to be good about interrupts, cc, and have good damage. Workshop for example is good for a big first pull, meadery and motherlode as well. However people in a 2 pug don’t even have their cc on their bars so don’t get ambitious.

Oh man, I have seen this far too many times when pugging into keys.

At least when I tank, I do a standard pug route every time even if I have an antsy dps that thinks were competing in the MDI lol.

Expect this part, pretty sure this is part of standard routing.

Did a +5 back in dragonflight. Got to the lasat boss with 15 minutes to spare and one of the DPS suddenly starts throwing a fit about the tank’s route.

And I just remember thinking like “who gives a crap.” It was a +5, we had 15 whole minutes to kill the last boss. Why does his route matter?

People are wild about their specific strat not being followed.

We downed the boss with well more than 12 minutes left.

MDI strats can be fun, but much easier and effective to communicate in voice chat for keys. Definitely wouldn’t want to try it with pugs.

It’s even better when they don’t know WHY it was a done a certain way. I only started doing keys in Shadowlands, as a tank and I remember the first season we were in a +7 and we basically just straight held W no fancy skips.

So at one point the dps told me “the right away to do it is to do this pack, save that boss, etc so you can get Prideful for Hakar.” Yeah my guy I am aware that would be the right way to do it for a +10 ( I think that is when prideful kicked in right way back then?)

Yes, the seasonal affixes were introduced at 10s in SL.

I really do not miss Prideful, having to plan routes around it was just not fun with pugs.

I mean the start of cinder brew you can do triple pulls and much of it you do double pulls even in 10s

Just to play devil’s advocate I will offer you these questions to think about.

What’s worse:
Tank blindly over confident in the abilities of a pug group?
DPS not able to handle big pulls?
People complaining about tanks but refusing to tank themselves?

Lmao those low level pugs can get really funny sometimes.

I know this one tank who watches MDI stuff frequently, knows the dungeon mechanics well enough to explain it on the fly, but has run them maybe 3-4 times at best this season. So when he tries to put big MDI type pulls in practice it doesn’t ever go according to plan and I am left healing up extra damage taken from missed interrupts or extra mechanics.

Like this is a +7 and I just want my crest cap bro. I didn’t form the group with the insane amount of BIS meta stops/CC needed for gigantic pulls, nor do most of our guildies/friends even know what needs to properly be interrupted (yet). Like just chill - we aren’t trying to time world first 20’s or w/e.

Oh yeah, or when someone got one random mob pulled in and it pushed you over the percentage too early, the buff got wasted, no one was ready. Then you have to figure out on the fly if the math means every Pride is going to be wrong the entire dungeon.

Good question. Maybe I am bias but 110% I would say people complaining about tanks but not tanking is annoying, but not everyone is built for it. I play all six tanks as my “mains,” and one healer… I only hop into dps for fun or later in the season again at lower keys that I usually outgear.

A tank being blindly confident in the group before any pulls at all is a mistake if you ask me, especially in low keys. Now if the first few pulls all the kicks land and noone stands in anything bad, I will ramp up my tanking.

This reminds me of playing other games such as Rainbow Six. Playing in a casual match with teammates who are Silvers trying to use tactics that only work in Platinum and above because they just watched a stream or video where it was done. Then they scream about us getting rolled. A classic blunder.

This is why you ask for the tank’s MDT route before the key goes in, and if you don’t have it or they don’t have it, some communication about the first pull is nice. If you don’t like it, then replace them or leave.

I should start doing that, when I tank I throw a quick note out before the key goes in. Usually like in flight or something.

Hey guys I am just straight holding W, no invis skips. I’ll pull slowly at first and more as I see what we can handle sound good?

Never really had any pushback about it, I get the occasional person like I said above that wants to do the coolest MDI tech he saw that requires 10 coordinated kicks/stuns and we aren’t on voice chat because it is a +3 key lol.

Yeah, this is my first season trying to main a DPS. Been a bear tank main for literal 15 years. I’ve seen some horrific stuff in pugs so far this season. Everything from slow tanks, to clueless tanks, to tanks doing what you’re saying, to tanks just alt f4ing after they make a mistake and it goes on. I never say anything toxic to anyone, failure and mistakes happen, but I have started to ask what is the plan before the key starts.

I started gearing up a blood dk last night because I’m feeling like being a DPS in a queue simulator and being at the mercy of pug tanks is too much for me.

At the start of the run I just copy paste this “Not gonna do fancy MDI sh1+, standard PUG route, you guys r not MDI player nor am I, just want to time this.”
