I decided to start farming the seasonal mount about 5 days ago and I’ve done over 40 matches with half of them having 1 or more people screaming at their team to give up as soon as the smallest thing goes wrong. The other thing is those people demanding for their team mates to literally stop queuing any kind of PVP, not just Blitz.
Usually the person who talks smack is one of the first folks to die and I’m starting to see a pattern of people with this attitude going to a corner of the map to idle while turning into a keyboard warrior and insulting the rest of their team.
Not sure what can be done about this, but it did not seem to be an issue last season. Last season I played about 200 games and farmed about 3 saddles and never saw this much toxicity. I would think you would want a mix of player skill levels, just so you can have some easy kills, and not 100% sweats in every game.
Is there something different with this season? Should I just start doing Blitz as soon as a new season starts because more people are probably motivated to try to win?
This is pretty miserable with how quickly people are just wanting to stop trying when if the team got their act together, they could turn the game around in their favor.
I’m sorry you experienced this friend. I’ve had a few matches go like that but at lower rating. Once I climbed out of what they deem “mmr hell” , most games everyone tries until it’s over. For instance, my last game played we were losing by a large margin but near the end we started to swing it towards even. The match was decided when one of our teammates straight dunked a crystal in deep haul ravine and we won the match last minute. The hype in chat was very real. Keep playing, you may eventually find yourself in better teams.

Oh, of course! Lots of time for smack talk when you’re dead. And it’s always someone else’s fault too!

Far fewer players playing atm. Stakes feel higher. More angry people. I get it though. Aspects of the MMR system atm are very broken. Even for me, I find myself getting very frustrated to be in ‘another’ game that’s about to lose. If the system wasn’t so punishing, people would probably be a bit more… cheerful.
The beginning of the season was substantially better. First 6-8 weeks basically felt like last season. It felt off pretty quickly though.
Totally agree and people should try, but if you’re on ‘that’ team, sometimes people just toss in the towel.
I just got out of a game on my mage and am currently at 45 minutes on my queue. After having lost the last 3, my MMR is in the 900 range. Very, very frustrating. FC map. No one will get the flag. Priest won’t. R.sham won’t. Feral won’t and AFKs the last half of the game. DH tries but gets no heals and doesn’t try again. So I go get it. No heals come. Die. Go again. No heals come. Die.
So it goes.

Really nice post. I didn’t think that many less people were playing but I can see the smaller pool leading to more upset folks in Blitz games.

Yea, just a guess, but I’d say it’s about a 1/3 or less for blitz. About 9% of active accounts got Challenger I first season. Season 2 only about 3% of accounts have it.
And yea, with less people playing, MMR just ends up being very punishing now. If you played last season, had a decent MMR/CR, AND played early, you basically picked up where you left off. My SV hunter got 2.4 in a week. Was a joke. Then I pushed my mage, boomkin, and priest. Started getting tougher and longer for each, but still hit 2.4.
My ele sham took 3x-4x longer. Still hit 2.4, but games were way less forgiving. I had a very good win/loss ratio but wasn’t getting enough points per win. Queues were longer as well which made the grind more annoying. Losses compounded quicker. At this point I would assume that the average MMR is probably dropping and dropping quickly if people keep queuing. Blitz badly needs an MMR floor. Too many players quitting for lack of queues at sub 1200 games. Why would anyone want to wait an hour for another loss? Not a good system. Needs to be fixed but Blizzard is MIA and may not even know it’s a problem.

Fix: Blizz enables Average Actions per Minute on a toon (there are other games doing this) and warn/ban when there is deviance
I’ve had several Eye of the Storm matches where we lost the middle at the start, but still won by sneaking bases.
Also had quite a few Warsong Gulch games where we dominated mid, but still lost because the enemy capped three flags.

I saw a video of a brewmaster player winning a Blitz EOTS game by 1 point from something like 500 - 1499 score by spinning a neutral base until the game ended.
Pretty sure the other team capped the flag too early and lost the other base.
They won with a single base in the end 1500 - 1499.
I think it was actually posted here?
