Lately I’ve seen people forgetting something very important, so I think we shouldn’t forget this, but there’s layers to this. I’ll tackle them point by point.
1.) Umbric’s Void Elves who were BLOOD ELF SCHOLARS were involved in an accident, imbuing them with the void-skin tones and labeling them, officially, Void Elves. Before that, they were Silevrmoon Scholars. After that transformation, they are Void Elves. They take the name because it’s what they are. They’re no longer welcome in Silvermoon. However, just as the Blood Elves took another name to honor their brethren, they were still High Elves. Even though they changed from Arcane, to Fel, to Light, they remained High Elves. In the same way that Void Elves changed from Fel, to Light, to Void, they are still High Elves, even if they no longer claim the name.
2.) Even if you disagree from my first point, this one is much easier to follow. High Elf Wayfarers, AKA Survivors of the Scourge who did not claim the Blood Elf name and remained on the Alliance, found their way to Telogrus Rift. When Void Elves launched, these High Elves were not part of the playable faction of Void Elves. However, they were added later, and spawn in the same place that the High Elf Wayfarers are found. This is very similar to how Man’ari Eredar operate, as well as Sand Trolls or Wildhammer Dwarves. Though, since High Elf Wayfarers are literally in Telogrus Rift and you can make your High Elf-toned Void Elf spawn there, it’s pretty straightforward and more sensical than a Man’ari spawning Ammen Vale, for example.
Often, I see the request for High Elves as their own race, but over time, and hopefully with Alleria’s presence in the next WoW Expansions, I hope people come to understand Void Elves and Blood Elves are both the remains of the High Elves. Blood Elves still live in their lands, and Void Elves are the outcast remnants of Blood Elves and High Elves who explored Void magic, but they’re all High Elves.
