That’s because people are misinformed by people on this very forum. Blizz is punisheing Griefers… not “leavers”.
" who repeatedly and recklessly disrupted Mythic+ groups."

But they aren’t. You’re lying.
I don’t care. They will suffer no actual ill effects for leaving the key, their fear is unfounded, but it might keep them in line, so it’s good.
Good. People should be afraid to leave keys. I hope Blizzard cracks down even harder on it going forward. Maybe something like leaving more than ten, or potentially even as low as five keys in a week results in a ban.
Only if we are allowed to report people and they get banned for playing badly.
It needs to be fair, after all.
Well, that’s just silly. If people are actually afraid of being banned, then they either didn’t read the announcement or they enjoy the adrenaline rush of being upset. I’d put some gold down on the table that most of them…didn’t read the blue post. They just saw people gleefully freaking on the forums and joined the pile.
You don’t get banned for leaving keys. You get suspended for being a serial leaver who purposefully trolls groups through intentionally bricking keys by leaving.
D/Cs, emergencies that require you to leave, or leaving a key now and again because the group is riding the struggle bus so badly that it’s not productive to stay…is not what they’re banning people for. The blue post says that. Specifically.
They’re banning people for malicious conduct, so unless you’re ruining keys on purpose…it’s utterly ridiculous to be “afraid” to leave a key.
I think people should go read the blue post again (most of the loudest upset about this is from people who haven’t even read it a first time). It wasn’t vague at all and addressed everyone’s concerns about what qualifies as actionable behavior. They were clear that D/C, personal emergency, and the occasional need to leave a key because it isn’t working out/worth the hassle…is not a problem, not actionable, and not the purpose of the suspensions they gave.
If you’re not a troll who bricks keys just for spite of an evening, then the post isn’t about you and won’t affect you.
They aren’t “banning” people. They suspended a few people.
And the blue post about it was very clear. They didn’t say “You can be a jerk 4 times per reset, but 5 times will get you suspended” because that isn’t how any of this works. Human behavior does not always require a spreadsheet. Don’t treat your fellow players like they’re bots created to serve your whimsy, and all will be well.
Awesome. It’s working.
Were they from a Brazilian server? For whatever reason they alt +F4 more than anyone instead of just leaving.
Idk I’ve seen people who left a few bad keys in a week get banned already. Their algorithm is not that great tbh. I have a 2-3% leave rate at worst and I am sure I am on the line myself.
That scenario is ridiculous, and you guys are being really silly if you think leaving after the tank DC would be actionable.
Man at this rate the whole wide world of warcraft is gonna be on the ban wagon. 0 players, playing 0 subs. This is a financially astute implementation, which we will clearly see wipe away their 4th quarter profits almost immediately. You betcha.
RIP WoW. 2024
The true death of Azeroth, the floodgates from the mythical, bottomless M+ ban ocean have opened. No one is safe.
I think you make a good point, my only concern with removing the degradation of keys is maintaining the competitive and challenging aspects of M+ although I dont necessarily think it would, I could imagine some ways it would take a way some of the “risk factor” that is part of the thrill
Didn’t even think about this, but for this reason alone I am against non-degrading keys.
Side note - paying for runs is horrible and is a huge pain in the tuckus for the M+er’s who earn their ratings & gear theough blood sweat and tears.
So many tears…
Make M+ like Delves. Can’t join a 10 unless you timed a 9. Can’t join a 9 unless you timed an 8 etc
This comes back to the root problem with the Mythic+ system, and it’s an intentional design choice.
There is supposed to be risk.
Most commonly, the risk is the keystone itself, but they’ve nevertheless introduced a risk beyond “brush off and try again” into the system. Humans in general are risk-adverse, and will take steps to avoid risk… or guarantee success.
People leaving keys because a problem because that was the risk rearing it’s head, regardless of the cause of the player leaving (legitimate or trolling). People aren’t always reasonable when they’ve “lost” something, regardless of how minor it may be.
But the more I think about it, boosts and carries really took off with Mythic+. Something always in the game, but they became FAR more common with the advent of M+… and looking back, I think it does come back to “risk adversion”. A paid run or carry has an implicit guarantee of success, and the exchange of gold gives some value to the agreement.
Anyhow, being banned for leaving keys – no matter how slight or how legitimate the reason for leaving – introduces another layer of risk that players are going to want to avoid. And if success can’t be (effectively) guaranteed through PuGs and leaving because things are going wrong could result in a ban?
Well, the only sure-fire answer is to not PuG M+ keys.
There are other solutions, but they are
But yes, players being afraid to leave keys has only one logical conclusion:
Players being afraid to run keys at all.
You know i can’t do the math 5% of 50 runs thats about 3 keys a week, thats alot imo … keep that up and you get the ban hammer lol
I wouldn’t be surprised if ppl who DC from a lot of keys get suspended.
3 out of 50 keys isn’t a lot.
Sounds hyperbolic.
“Guys! Oh no! My inter crackling noises is acti static up I might discon flat line noises”
I highly doubt dc’ing excludes them from getting banned.
“Hmmm this guy sure tends to dc a lot during a key…nah it’s just his bad internet… nothing vindictive to see here!”
Hardly anyone actually DCs in keys. It always happens after too many deaths or a horrible wipe. A lot of the time, it’s the tank or healer rage quitting.
