Simonize was right. This mechanic sucks.
I promise you, not a single living soul asked for a "kick or wipe " boss.
For some context, I had done prog on both my Fire Mage and my H Priest on Council and largely enjoyed the fight, but last night I had the misfortune of progging the fight on my Ret Paladin and I have to say… wow, that is completely NOT what I want out of a boss like this.
Kick or wipe in Classic with kicks that can miss and that are on GCD, in a game without focus macros, with a kick that isn’t fully scheduled, that require multiple kicks, on a boss that drops your target and also moves around the room. No one wanted this.
Honestly, this mechanic is so dad-unfriendly and isn’t something gear will help fix. Aggrend, buddy, I think most of this raid was great, but get rid of this dumb mechanic. Just do it now before people more people get frustrated with it.
You know what’s fun for DPS players? Fights like pre-nerf Mason. Where the goal is to pump really, really hard while not standing in bad stuff.
Low-key I kind of just don’t want to take my Ret Paladin into the raid next lock-out as I did not enjoy that experience.

Nah, telling someone they can’t share their feedback because of their logs is hella dumb. That Stinkybottom guy doesn’t typically have anything intelligent to say on the forums though so it’s expected.

Ok but that doesn’t mean his feedback is valuable at all. He hasn’t even downed the boss. A 3 kick rotation really is not so much to ask… this flight requires very little verbal communication; clear coms and call kicks, it’s so easy even a dad could do it.

It’s funny because Sentenza has been rabidly defending SE as being tuned just fine and not needing nerfs, yet he’s hardstuck 5/8 in a 30+ player raid

The feedback of it not being a fun mechanic has absolutely nothing to do with logs or performance, and hes right. Its implementation in SoD is not a fun mechanic. It lacks the relaibility of how it would be in retail (a very common mechanic there).
Kicks that can miss, casts that are unpredictable. This isnt a fun design.

Whats a “fun” mechanic, anyways? I mean dad-mechanics sound like they should just stand there and just be tank and spank loot piñatas.
Whew, good thing I didnt say that. But having actually done the fight counts for something is your want to share your opinion on it.
My guild had no problem with misses and the movement thing is such a non issue as far as fun goes… Like yeah there is the added challenge of maybe having to eat a mechanic in order to go for a kick. I don’t see how that necessarily translates into it being unfun.
Dad-unfriendly: get good and just press ur one button. Also theres a weak aura that all but plays the game for you as a kick rotation. If SE was that easy there would literally be nothing left to do in SoD.

If that were true why are so many guilds stuck on it?
“Tuning” is a meme. Tuning seems fine. People just have some mental aversion to calling out certain mechanics, or they were like me and play ranged dps or healing and don’t realize this mechanic exists the way it does.
I’m almost positive I’ve owned several of these people in other threads (they’re muted so I can’t read what they’re saying) and they’re just taking the opposite PoV because they’re mad. I don’t believe anyone actually feels delight with this mechanic compared to other bosses in the raid.

It is a pretty terrible mechanic, not cause it’s just bad as we have it with KT but the damage is just obscene. A single missed kick should not be a raid wipe, not with the cast time that it has. Could’ve been a great dps and heal check in honesty if say this Doan pops a shield on the guy, Herod needs to be tanked away, and while the shield lasts he’s ‘interrogating’ the raid. This causes pulsing aoe damage until the shield is popped and he’s kicked. Reduce the damage down, make sure the shield can be popped, and have the cast time last 10 seconds (or something). Would’ve been great, but instead it’s a “oh you missed kick? Wipe and try again.” That’s a pretty bad mechanic considering it’s a normal cast time for the amount of damage it does.
