I am having shuts downs. I understand Blizzard does not feel responsible but I have done a bit of testing so far. I have only had these issues since the last major content patch. Please read and offer some suggestions. While gaming(WOW) the PC will just lose power, it is stable all other times. It will turn on/off and wake from sleep mode. This is happenings in dungeons, raids, or high demand world quests. I will hear my fan speed increase, I will even tab out to check temps. I have installed Speecy from Ccleaner to monitor temperatures and the CPU may hit 43c and the graphics 70c.These are OK. My PSU is 750w. I have run a pass with 3D future mark and the system does not crash. I did a fresh installation of windows on a new Samsung SSD. I even had run prime95 on the CPU with out a shut down. All my drivers are up to date. I have a AMD FX-8350, 16 gigs of ram, gigabye MB, a gigabyeRX580 with 8 gigs of ram all running on a 64 bit version of windows10. I also run recommended game settings.
My first question is does this happen with any other high demand gaming? What it honestly sounds like is your CPU is overheating and shutting the PC down to save it from cooking itself. I’ve had this problem in the past myself, though not through wow.
I am unfamiliar with Speecy but I use HWmonitor to check my temps and havent had any problems with it so far. It is free. I would check another temp monitor to see if yours is reading correctly. This might be as simple as taking off the cpu cooler and cleaning out the fins and applying some new thermal paste. Especially if it’s been a while since the last time you did.
I guess first I would check another temp checker and see what it says. If your CPU is only running at 43c during high intensity then that should be good, but I’ve had the 8350 in the past and it would shut itself down around the 90c mark I think, though I don’t use that CPU anymore.
Good luck
Thanks for the thoughts. Unfortunately, I play Northguard and Civ6 neither are as demanding as WOW. That was why I ran a couple of stress tests. As far as cooling goes I have a Noctua NH-U12S cooler on it. That 120MM cooler is massive and oh clean.
For some extra troubleshooting I just put in an Enermax 750w gold rated PSU.
I’m wondering if this is big enough, or maybe that it’s failing.
Nothing has changed with this pc recently? No new parts etc? You might make sure the plugs are well connected. How long can you play WoW before the PC acts up?
It seems it started with the last major patch, recently I just did a fresh install of windows and the game with no changes. I can quest or farm all day. Then if I try to do a 5 man visions, lfr, or even the end boss for the weekly we just got in Uldum. The puddles, growing circles, and the other players spells and what not… shut it down. I just did another run of prime95 things look OK. I just put in the PSU I got; time to log some time and see if it is that. I never had a PSU get weak, they will mostly just quit working and the PC will not boot.
I just did A PSU calculator it recommends 540w.
