PC Build? Seeking Assistance

Hi!

So this morning I got lucky and got me a: “MSI GeForce RTX 3080 Gaming X Trio Graphics Card, 10GB GDDR6X, Ray Tracing, VR Ready, Tri Frozr 2 Thermal Design, 3X DisplayPort, 1x HDMI 2.1 8K, w/ Mytrix HDMI Cable” this morning before they were all sold out. The only issue is… I don’t have anything else lol. I kind of impulse bought it as soon as I seen it available.

So I was wondering if anyone could help me with a build? Right now I’m using a 27 inch 1440 LG 27GL83A-B and would like to dual monitor setup. Sooo yeah this is my problem right now lol.

What type of budget are you working with?
Second monitor can be anything. Just buy one base on what you’re using it for, i.e. reading/chat/youtube/etc

PcPartPicker is good starting spot if you want to play around and give us a list to work with.

Grats on buying that card, hope you didn’t pay more than 1.1k before tax

You will need the CPU to push it as well. Nvidia drivers depends on it.

Try

Core i7-10700K
Scythe Mugen 5 Rev.B
MSI Z490-A Pro or Z590-A Pro (coming soon)

or

AMD Ryzen 7 5800X or Ryzen 9 5900X
Deepcool Assassin III or Noctua NH-D15
Asus TUF B550-PLUS

The rest of the parts:

8GB DDR4-3600 X2
PNY CS3030 500GB or 1TB
Seasonic Focus GX 850W or NZXT C850
Phanteks Eclipse P500A

Intel Rocket Lake is coming end of this month as well.

If you live by a Microcenter, Intel CPUs are DIRT cheap right now.

i5-10600k $189
i7-10700k $249
i9-10850k $319

Damn, 9900K is poison for me. Sadly doesn’t ship to my country.

And you save $20 on a mobo too.

It’s insane!

I already have Z390 + 9600K. I can just upgrade the CPU.

$249.99 + 5% tax + shipping is hard to ignore.

It’s in store only it says, unless i’m looking at the wrong thing.

Its too cheap to ignore. Maybe I can try using my relative at Orlando. lol

i could drive to Tustin, but that’s 6 hours away. The fuel and time costs probably make the discount lose its value.

I would have to have it be in addition to some other event, like visiting relatives or something to justify the trip.

But I dislike all of my relatives in SoCal, so that’s unlikely.

That price. Still cheaper even if I use FedEx.

I need to find a trustworthy mail forwarding service. Its more convenient.

can always go on a mini food tour with your fambam… Orange County is somewhat reopen. Only reason I’m still here is cause of the food.

Tomorrow we both get our second shots. So perhaps a month or so after that we might be open to doing more

Sorry I’m looking at maybe $1500 for the rest of the parts. I’ll be more than thankful if my build can last me 5-7 years maybe even more.

Below is a sample build with no 2nd monitor selected. I have the same monitor you have. I use to have 2 side by side and the 2nd one’s purpose was a glorified 144hz youtube/reading monitor. It is now my main monitor at my second office.

What you can change.
CPU/Motherboard: AMD 5900x/5950x + x570 or b550 motherboard. Assuming you can find a 5900x or 5950x in stock. Unless something drastically changes, these should easily last you 5+ years…

CPU cooler: You can either grab a 360mm version or go for a big heatsink like noctua D15

Ram: You can get 32gbs or faster ram if you so choose to. 3200Mhz or 3600Mhz is just the sweet spot for $/perf.
