PC build just for WOW

Hello everyone!
I am looking to build a PC just to play WOW on ultra settings. I have no interest in playing any other games as I am majorly a console player. I am not looking for a 2000 dollar build, just a dedicated PC for WOW. Also any monitor recommendation would be appreciated. I am looking to get at least 60 fps at 1080. Thank you for the information I am new to building a PC.

Both should pull 1080p/60 on ultra/high in most games, with the latter being a bit stronger with more storage and nicer case.

Also, don’t play on ultra. there’s almost no perceivable difference between setting 7 and 10 in WoW, except less frames.

Hello thank you for the recommendation! Why do you say that there’s no difference between settings 7 and 10? Do you also recommend a monitor? Im going to plug into my TV for now but I would like a monitor for down thr line

As typical, there’s not much difference in visual quality between high and ultra, but there is a huge tax on hardware for that step.

In WoW, 7 looks pretty much just as good as 10, but takes less resources.

Here’s a good easy-to-consume video on the concept:

WoW does great at 7.

As for displays, I recommend a high refresh 1080p or 1440p display. Up to you. 1440p is harder on your graphics card, but WoW should handle it on a 5600XT okay.

I am using an AOC AG241QX, which is a 1440p/144hz Adaptive Sync monitor and I like it. I have a 5700 XT and it runs WoW on 7 settings at that resolution and I cap it at 120fps. I’m sure you can dial in settings on a 5600 XT and get 100fps easily at 1440p.

Inexpensive 1080p/144hz display (my son uses this one):

This one for 1440p looks pretty compelling for the price:

The video was extremely informative thank you! And thank you for taking the time for this!

Edit: messed up the quotation.

The hardware and games in the video are out of date, and his statements about do you need a better card ( you do; don’t buy an RX 580, for example), but the concept is still valid.

For example, on my:

5ghz 8700k
5700 XT (2100mhz OC)
32GB DDR4 3466
1440p

At my Garrison on 10, MSAA8x, I am getting roughly 57fps.

At my Garrison on 7, FXAA Max, I am getting roughly 140fps.

Barely noticeable image quality difference. You lose some grass, but you also lose half the FPS.

And for a more “balanced” configuration, I am roughly getting 130fps.

Turned down a few things, and looks barely different than max 10, double the FPS.

Thank you for the clarification regarding 7 and 10. Do you think the 1000 dollar build would run wow at 120? I am thinking of picking up the monitor that your son uses.

Probably; but keep in mind even the best systems will take FPS hits during stuff like raids and heavy PVP. It won’t be a GPU problem, though, mostly a CPU one. If you are playing 1080p, i suspect you’d enjoy 120fps most of the time when doing quests and out in the world at 7, and maybe above 60fps during raids.

You can also use the raid graphics settings for reduced settings in raids.

As far as GPU, open world will stress it the most. Strangely I find WoD zones are more GPU stressful than anything else.

Thank you for all of your help and I am sorry to keep bothering you. So far the b450 is sold out everywhere I look. Can you recommend an alternative? I don’t know much about motherboards other than I need to buy the right right one for the processor.

B550s just launched. Look on YouTube for a good one.

I think the Geforce 1660 is pretty much the sweet spot GPU if you want to max out WoW at 1080p. If you can get a second hand 1070 or even 1080, that would probably even be better and more bang for your back, provided you trust the guy selling you the second hand video card.
