Pause M+ Timer when a Player DC

While the timer is paused you are unable to gain % progress on adds to avoid abuse.

What do you think?

and if they don’t come back?

You can’t complete it, people will leave eventually

can’t think of a way just yet, but i’m sure players would find a way to abuse it.

For sure, wow is a game people love to abuse mechanics

It’s a fair idea but it would probably get exploited.

I really want this to be a thing, having missed timers because the tank’s computer froze…but it also seems like the kind of thing that could be abused. Or they’d have to put in a stupid amount of hoops to jump through.

  • Like they can’t just pause the timer and let you keep killing mobs - someone could intentionally DC and let the group 4-man it until they get to a hard pack/boss.

  • And if they freeze the entire dungeon - what about people would rather keep 4-manning, timer or not, until the player gets back online? Or players who never come back online, and the group wants to at least try to finish?

  • They can’t just add a “pause” option, or players would start pausing whenever they want to talk strategy. (if they’re really determined, they could intentionally DC to trigger a pause for this purpose).

The pause should be by the system, not players pausing the timer.

When the system detect someone offline pause the timer and resume when they are back.

So player 5 alt F4s and the rest of the team 4 man’s it with infinite time?

Did you read at all? The progress stop while the timer is paused to avoid abuse.

Still, that would be an issue for groups who want to keep going as a 4-man if the DC’d player is gone for good. Though maybe that’s less common than someone DC’ing temporarily and the group wanting to pause, idk.

No way to implement it that wouldn’t be abuseable. There in no pause button in the game for a reason and the same goes for the timer in these things.

There are many ideas out there to help prevent the unique problems a timer presents but I think as long as the player didn’t leave or dc on purpose we should just chalk it up to an unfortunate circumstance and not try to fix that sort of thing.
However, people who leave on purpose… Now that’s something I’d love to find a solution to.

So let cds recharge while DC?

Reposition?

All characters completely frozen? What if they never come back?

That’s asking to solve a social, human-nature problem with an automated system - without potential for abuse - which seems even more hopeless to me than a non-abusable way to solve the accidental DC problem. The social problem can only really have a social solution: running with people you trust (or building up trust with people who you can then keep running with).

Or!!! They could just simply do away with the time timer and the problem would go away. Better yet just beating the Mythic Plus advances your key 1 level while beating the timer increases the key by 2 levels.

Had they simply done it that way it would help a lot of people out who have group members simply DC or have to leave due to an unforeseen emergency.

This game has a few too many things expecting perfect performance. We can’t always control the weather, our ISP, our significant other, or a baby that might have woken from a nap that we need to rush and check on. Those days are long past for me but I remember them.

Look I think the timer needs to go for normal Mythic + progression. Simple as that. Let the timer matter for skipping to a higher key or in competition.

No, I actually have a social solution to the problem, but don’t want to derail the thread with this. Either way, whatever the problems with mythic plus timers, I would rather see blizzard not step in to handle them, because as we both pointed out, it encourages abuse as much as it solves a problem.
