Pathfinder

Let me preface this with the obligatory “I already have flight so it isn’t a thread about how it is too hard for me”. Now that we have that out of the way I have to say…

I LOVE me some rep grinds. I love collecting Tabards and seeing the bars fill up. This time (8.2) it felt different and not just to me but to everyone I know on Battlenet. It felt tedious and forced, almost like Ion angrily put it in the game as a middle finger to players.

I have been in the “anti flight” group for a long time (I don’t hate flight but couldn’t care less if they permanently removed it). That changed in 8.2 forever. I’m “pro flight” and will be openly hostile towards any future Blizzard plans to make flight as miserable to get as possible.

Put flight in the game or don’t but get rid of this straddling the fence nonsense for Christ’s sake. The best part of 8.2 so far for me has been pet battles. I’m glad we get flight in the new zones this time but it doesn’t absolve this team of the disastrous handling of flight since 6.0.

Get a clue Blizzard. The amount of subs you are playing with by your stand against flight is several orders of magnitude more severe than the ones you’re going to lose by having flight day one of an expansion.

I don’t mind pathfinder part 1, part 2 can die in a fire. Or colloquially DIAF.

TL;DR: I think everyone thinks like me so listen to me.

Human Ret Paladin with a dumb alt code name, nothing to see here.

Someone didn’t bother to look and just assumed someone is Ret. Fail DK is Fail DK

Bonus points for wearing the most played out transmog in the game. GG kiddo!

Did someone put out a 911 for a human ret paladin? Cool, Galent reporting for duty!

yeah but ur still a human pally

and in t2

biiiiig yikers

And? I have about 6 sets for mog I switch between, one being this. The unholy DK seems to think that transmog invalidates a accurate TL;DR of his complaint thread of assuming everyone has to and should think like him

Agreed, as a fellow rep grinder. This one was not enjoyable, and felt extra pointless and dragged out for the sake of forcing players to waste their time.

I think like him.

When you guys come out, do you have a truck with lights and stuff or do you just rely on a shiny mog?

We fight in the name of the light, of course we have a shiny truck.

Do you make the wee-oo wee-oo noises yourself?

I’ve said all along that pathfinder itself isn’t bad or the problem. The problem is that a part 2 exists and spitefully gates flying for a year. It’s asinine to make us wait part 1 checks all the boxes to make sure we jumped through EVERY hoop…give us flying after that.

We have our dark iron brethren do that.

I wonder how many more subs they would get if they reverted back to how flying was obtained from previous expansions, no Pathfinder. I gotta believe they’d have noticeably more subs, but I could be wrong.

I just hate Pathfinder. Not because it is hard. Been playing since just before BC and have done grinding. A lot.

I hate it for the following reasons:

  1. It is completely illogical. There is no reasonable explanation as to why a hero of Azeroth can’t fly when others can. It makes no sense that I can buy a flying mount for real money when I can’t fly. It is ridiculous to think that calling a flight taxi with a whistle is more immersive than flying myself. No agency is not immersive. Ugh.
  2. Pathfinder makes the game ABOUT flying. Most players are thinking about flying as they check their rep and do WQs and check off their tasks. They aren’t immersed in the story or the world, they are are doing daily chores to get flying. And that is just horrible game design. Blizzard has set flying up as THE pinnacle reward in the game . . .which kind of wrecks the game in ways I don’t think they anticipated.
  3. Taking stuff away makes players feel bad, and the bigger the removed piece of the game, the worse it feels. When you are a player who scrimped and saved and worked to get gold in BC TO FLY, bought flying mounts with both RL and game currency, did crazy grinds to get flying mounts, and then flying in the current game is taken away for over a year? That just feels lousy. And in a game that can ill afford to make more of the game feel pointless and temporary, it feels like nothing I do really ever matters because it can be taken away on a whim cough flying, toy abilities, Legion weapons, leveled champions from past expacs, abilities, and on and on and on cough)

I think Pathfinder is a terrible failure. I think it makes many players unsub. I think it discourages many of those who stay. I think it kills immersion.

I hate it.

Welcome to the club - I’ve seen that angry finger since 2013. I’ve been team-choice (buy flying or do pathfinder) ever since they said no flying in WoD. In Legion we were also jerked around when we had part 1 done for 8 months and had to wait for Broken Shores to open, and Broken Shore was a huge hassle trying to finish the achievement. With people coming on board now, Pathfinder in WoD and Legion is a piece of cake - sure its still work but it takes MUCH less time & aggravation to get done than when it was current.

The bottom line is our choices are:

1.) tolerate their nonsense and jump through the hoops each expansion.
2.) cancel subscription and/or not buy another expansion and give Blizzard the middle finger.
3.) next expansion, wait for a couple years to buy it cheap and by then pathfinder will take you a few days.

“Hey, go kill a hundred demons.”

Two weeks later

“Hey, go kill a hundred demons again somewhere else because I don’t know, f you I guess.”
