I read an interview the other day where George Lucas said his favorite character was Jar Jar Binks. When The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull came out and the symbol of that movie was the enormous glowing head (an obvious symbol of his inflated ego), we should have guessed he’d lost his way. Pride still comes before the fall. But for him to stubbornly elevate a character universally considered to be unworthy of the premier sci-fi epic of our time just made me see the enormous, glowing, alien head on his shoulders.
Pathfinder is like that. I was going back through WoD recently and cursing at being stuck on the tedious terrain – and not being able to fly in a zone that’s five years old – when the praises the developers heaped on themselves for finding the perfect solution for flight connected to Lucas’s comments on Jar Jar. It’s just absurd.
Even though WoW has been humbled in recent years, I guess they have a similarly glowing, alien head which blinds them to practical, simple truths about the game. Locked flight on a 5-year-old expansion is absurd. No other developer in the world would praise themselves for that decision. If the game was really better without flight, we wouldn’t use it. The game sunk with the introduction of pathfinder and hasn’t recovered. Bury pathfinder with the bones of Jar Jar out there in Jakku and bring the game back to life.
Pathfinder for current expansion is fine, albeit SHOULD be given with Part 1 and not given a year later.
Pathfinder for past expansions, though, no. People who don’t want to grind it out should be given the option to buy flight per character (or unlock Pathfinder, which easier done if their main can fly).
The only reason why the prequels were as bad as they were was because of Lucas himself. People don’t realize that Lucas didn’t actually have that much input in episodes 4,5 and 6. It’s just that everyone was too afraid to challenge his stupid decisions during the making of episode 1,2 and 3. The whole dynamic of Padme and Anakin was retarded too. There was a lot wrong with the prequels, Jarjar is just one part.
Still, after all this time i can not believe how concerned people are with travel.
Neat little analogy though!
For me, id rather see flying removed from the game but it really doesn’t matter to me at this point. You cant do anything on a mount other than travel to content, so it barely matters in my eyes.
So if he equals pathfinder, that means that, Jar-Jar is an indepth, over complicated character that needs more screen time and own spin off show that no one asked for built around dues ex machina with a reasonable budget for. Show runner.
Pathfinder offers a reward, after a long and unnerving time gate collection. Jar Jar is there to keep children from getting bored and driving parents and moviegoers insane.
Plus, rather have Jar Jar than Little Orphan Annie and his teenage angst and hot topic robes.
They tried that in WoD as they say money talks and bs walks… and a lot of people took there money and said no more… so they scrambled and made pathfinder…
Cuts leveling a alt about 25%ish which is huge…
I dont mind pathfinder part 1 its the wait darn near a year and part 2 that rubs a lot of people the wrong way
Just give it to us after completing the explorer achievement at level cap. Anything more is just gating for the sake of gating. This game is far more fun and less of a drag when you can fly on alts and such. I don’t even play them anymore until the end of expansions. In my case it really brings down the time played metric because I just don’t play. I guess other people trudge on, but I just log out for 6 months.
Jar-Jar = Ewoks (yes I am over the Ewok Line from How I Met Your Mother)
Baby Yoda is proving how Jar-Jar COULD have been the best character in the prequels if done right, if the fanbase had the right mindset and PC culture didn’t erupt calling him racist.
Pathfinder is more like KK’s “the Force is Female” as it has dragged down the sequels and Solo. Much like Pathfinder, we get lied to and told its things like fatigue. Somehow though, when a well written show (The Mandalorian) without a political agenda being shoved down our throats comes along everyone loves it and cant get enough.
With 22 days before The Rise of Skywalker coming out, I don’t know ANYONE who is excited to see it. Star Wars isn’t dead - Kathleen Kennedy’s / JJ Abrahm’s / Rian Johnsons Star Wars IS dead though. Just like Ion’s Pathfinder. He just doesn’t know it yet
