Pathfinder Exists Because of Players' Lack of Moderation

Ignoring the clear bait of the blatantly wrong points, I’ll address THIS one:

Wrathion gave a shiny cloak, oooo! I raided without it just fine. If you wanted to min-max, sure! It was “100% necessary” to grind out every legendary that ever existed in WoW’s history so you could pull out your DPS meter and link them in chat. Followed by “MUH DEEPS” in guild chat, of course.

The fact you went for a legendary item as “time gating content” is just pathetic, dude. It’s like the legendary weapons in Guild Wars 2. Sure, it makes your life a little easier. In the long run, you still got your butt dumpstered on by players who could actually play their class better than you. Congrats on spending months farming that orange cloak with the cool particle effect, though!

There is the post. Go ahead and try to find it. If you are going to troll, do a better job at it.

Yes it did but none of it had to be done.

How am I wrong? Please point out where I specifically said time gating is new. Go ahead, find it.

Hey now I like that cloak lol.

But no your point is accurate.

I’ve never had my entire post used as an attack against someone else before. This is a new feeling. I kind of like it. Please continue.

Spare crates and mana pearls… I will have another paragon before I have the mount etc.

I had a paragon for Naz before I had brought my main spec essences. I will have another paragon before I have the mount etc.

dream on, 5k in bc was a lot of gold , for sure just gold would have been a ever increasing gold sink.

OP, its more like blizzard feel that the journey matters. The puzzling of how to get from a to b, how to gather on that rock above the path, that rushing through here to here and being dazed and surviving the pull. Alll of that matters and yes adds time. I decided to level my lockbox opener a couple of days ago after using up my supply of monolith keys and skipping alll that is a joy:)

I have zero issues with the length and difficulty of pathfinder only with the artificial gating to 8.2. Give me a pathfinder that requires I gain a paragon with every 8.0 rep any day.

or with 8.1 at least. But I’d rather not complain about when since it’s here and it’s nice to have. Plus everyone that complained that naz and mechagon wouldn’t have flying can shove it.

To be honest, I’m fine with the whole “journey” bit. It’s the way blizzard did it with an iron fist that isn’t okay. If the requirement was only: “Establish two outposts using the garris-, sorry, BOAT Table and you can fly,” that would be fine. The lengthy achievement requirements are obviously designed with keeping players playing as long as possible. That’s just not up for debate.

If they want us to explore new zones first, THEY HAVE A WAY TO DO THIS. Most of the questlines that introduce you to the zone leave you just under friendly. Getting to Honored and unlocking the ability to buy flying in that zone would be infinitely better. I would rather dump 20k gold on flying than spend 3 weeks of my life doing something i hate.

In BFA a tonne of people moderated their game play by quitting not long after launch.

???
I give a perfect example of content being time gated, and you claim it’s not time gating, because you can still play the game without it?

how does that even figure into any of this?

no parts of the game are “required”… including pathfinder.

it’s optional… all of it.

it was posted at 3, exactly where i quoted it from.

the poster seems to be under the impression that races are content.
races can’t be consumed.
content can.

Do you even know what you’re arguing about at this point?

I’ve shown each one of yours and the pandas posts to be incorrect, and you both keep coming back for more. lol

throws the pup a bone :bone:

There’s number 3. Show me where it talks about the story. Your idea of content is 100% opinion, not fact.

Also, quote my post that is wrong. I’m being patient, go ahead. Lets discuss it. In the mean time, I’m reporting you for trolling and derailing the thread since you are only here to cause issues among posters.

Those were all fluff reps, nothing major locked behind them like races or flying. The biggest reward that had any impact on gameplay was a fishing pole from what I remember.

If that were the case, then the entirety of the story would be in game, rather than so much of it being in external sources like novels that many people never read.

Or they’d do what FFXIV does and have a mandatory story questline that players progress through in order to access any higher-level content like raids and dungeons. But they don’t, because this isn’t about the story at all.

This worgen is a legend. It’s so rare to see someone call out another player for their bullsh*t. I’m sorry I can only upvote once.

So, let me be serious:

Let’s take a moment to DEFINE the term we’re all arguing over:
" Time-gating is preventing people from progressing by placing barriers in a game that require a certain amount of time to pass before the player can continue."

What you’re doing is a combination of devil’s advocate and reductio ad absurdum. Argue the other side, fine. HOWEVER, you know we aren’t talking about a piece of gear that isn’t important or a cosmetic that has no real impact on gameplay.

  1. Player races have a tangible impact on the game in terms of both player expression AND their passives. These passives limit potential builds and min/maxing, which you’re clearing a fan of if you took the time to get a legendary item.
  2. Player classes are a literal way to play the game, similar to Warsong Gulch vs Arathi Basin. Both are just battlegrounds and reward honor, but some people prefer Warsong Gulch to the alternative. Some people would rather play Monk over Warrior. If we had to grind out exalted with the Shado-Pan before unlocked Monk, there would be far less of that class running around and a lot more angry players.
  3. Stop wasting time and using reductio ad absurdum. It’s overused and generic. Be creative and use a lesser-recognized fallacy, please?

I mean, it’s quite a convenient thing for a company’s design really. “Trust us, we are doing this solely to increase the health of our players”, meanwhile following the design for every bit of content so that you literally have to play each day to get 100% benefit instead of missing out on the bonus rep/loot/AP available because you missed a day.

What’s realistically more healthy, encouraging players to play every single day or each week? Or giving players freedom of choice so if they want to spend 4-6 hours here or there they can do so?

Pathfinder was the intention all along. They only said they were taking away flying so people would be onboard with the “compromise”. It’s a classic sales/negotiating tactic.

Oracles had a mount at revered with the whole “egg” system. Buy egg, sit on it for 7 days, hatches. Sometimes (most times) you get some terrible “consumable” of rotten eggs, other times you may get a pet, or if really lucky a mount (think it was the Plagued Proto-drake?)

Exactly, fluff, as in cosmetic, rewards. No impact on gameplay.

Not just that. The players that bought into it actually believe they won that fight. That Blizzard was forced to turn around on their decision because of the uproar and that player choice played a factor in their eventual “compromise”.

It worked out brilliantly because to this day people still defend the decision and outright attack others that don’t agree. Make a heavyhanded move, fall back to what you intended to implement in the first place, and leave people convinced that it was their idea all along.

I just said that…

And yet you do the same thing to people who say they find pathfinding fine. I can’t say “I’m ok with earning my flying by doing stuff I was going to do anyway” without being called a white knight or a sellout.
