I maintain flying should NOT be gated by time or gold. There is no logical reason to restrict flying like they do.
What people? You? I still only have 1000s. You seem to forget that Garrison and Class Halls don’t have gold missions anymore so players who skipped these xpacs wont, Then there is the token that can be used for sub time. Plenty of players spend their gold on that. And not everybody plays the AH.
then they have plenty of time for pathfinder then dont they
I never minded being gated behind gold but definitely not time, that’s just stupid.
I did see what you said about gold in TBC. It did vary from person to person back then. It took me a little while to get enough for my swift flyer but a guy in my guild who farmed herbs had enough to buy 3 by that time. Funny thing is, I got mine before he did. I had to persuade him to get a swift flyer, telling him that he could farm herbs a lot more efficiently. I was shocked he didn’t realize that already.
Anyway, gold isn’t such a bad thing. Even with inflated prices, the cost now is fine by me. It’s not so much that it’ll break anyone’s bank but enough to pull some of the excess out of the economy.
Except thats not true of everyone. There are players who don’t play the AH religiously and the vast majority shouldn’t be penalized as a result. I know a number of players who aren’t even in the million mark. Because they play the Game instead of playing the AH.
Friend of mine had to borrow gold from me to get a certain battle pet. Yes, a pet that required a cool million on hand just to get the pet. They had a fraction of that.
That’s what games are meant for. To have fun. And of course in many cases, to socialize with other people.
When the Game becomes more Chore than Game, something is horribly broken.
It’s unfortunate that some take it to other extremes and see it as a second life or however you want to word it. They’re no longer playing merely for fun. They take it too seriously.
Its’ not just video games that suffer from this.
I’ve seen people take football, tabletop gaming, the works, far too seriously.
I mean, many tabletop rpgs even have threads on forums about “how do I deal with players who are becoming too obsessed with my game?”
Moderation in all things is king.
I don’t disagree, I was just commenting on this game since we’re in the middle of it.
I’ve been around this game since the start and I’ve read hundreds and hundreds of comments that I just smile and shake my head at how overly serious some people are.
Sometimes we all lose our cool and go overboard. All of us.
Just had to chime in that this isn’t just a video game issue. I’ve personally had to, as a GM at a tabletop RPG, remove players from the game. Because they got too obsessed. They were still my friends, but they needed to spend some time doing other things.
Genuinely curious, what kind of behavior did you see as a GM? I’ve never played a tabletop game but almost got into Vampire, just couldn’t find enough to play.
I count my blessings that save for a couple problems over the years, I’ve had good solid players. And the problems I did have, I was able to remain good friends with them in spite of it.
Two players were amusing, they were good friends, but once they joined a game, if one was for, the other HAD to be against. I of course took advantage of that.
Another player, if I needed someone to lay the pain on him, especially in a social situation, I knew he’d grin, smile and enjoy it.
One player, he typically played the straight man. Again, I took advantage of that fact.
I saw more bad players once I moved from exclusively GM status to pretty much exclusively Player status. And once I did, I swear, like every other group I got with had at least one bad player.
Finding good groups can be a pain. If you’re curious, check out meetup . com
They can be a great source for finding local groups of all sorts. All the way from social discussions to tabletop games to rpgs to … well, you name it.
Ok, back on topic!
There’s no reason to inflate the price. The suggestion of some outrageous price usually comes from people who don’t want flying in the game, or who think the cost should be burdensome so people are forced to “earn” it.
Honestly, if we put everything together… it all begins to make an unhappy amount of sense. China wants to moderate their players and how much time they can spend playing WoW. It seems to me like Blizzard saw the sub numbers in China, completely disregarded their other playerbase and is now chasing dollar signs. All the recent changes in the past two expansions point to forced moderation:
- Time gating quest chains and reputation farming.
- Encouraging only the FIRST normal and epic battlegrounds/dungeons of the day.
- Garrison-style follower missions that only require you to log in once per day to gain experience, azerite and gold.
- End-of-the-week rewards for PvE and PvP content that encourage playing small amounts over the week.
- The old raid-lockout system that allows runs once per week just fits nicely into this new set of systems.
You could easily get everything but the raiding done in 1-2 hours every day. The new systems encourage you to come back multiple times a week instead of playing large sums over a few days of the week.
China is actually doing that? Lol
Why not just make a country of androids?
I think many players replying negatively in this thread have forgotten previous threads where, before Patch 8.2 was released, there were numerous complaints about being bored and not having anything to do while waiting for the next patch. Some players were even suggesting that Blizzard ought to put out all of its content at once, due to the perception that flight was being time-gated for nefarious reasons by Blizzard. Those players hardly considered the possibility that Blizzard could be taking its time to make sure the next patch’s content was good-to-go with its new zones, dungeon, raid, and new AP system (among other features).
So, I know I’m correct about the boredom aspect of finishing content too quickly from players because it has happened just as recently as the early part of this year. How short some people’s memories can be…
How quickly they forgot Legion.
It is hard to shape a game around disparity in player consumption.
Realistically i don’t see the issue being prominent in the future where aspects of game development such as graphics and world creation become extremely easy due to technology and AI developments.
The main limiting factor is the rate that they can create decent quality content, you can gate content so people have to reduce pace to complete the content however this method also reduces enjoyment which means the overall benefit has been invalidated by the loss making it a nominal feature.
Most games combat the lack of individual moderation with reusable content such as FPS games, where it is repetitious but the attraction is the competitive rivalry, therefore why the content isn’t as vast as world of warcraft, which you can do in this game.
When it comes to PvE content it is really hard to actually create fun repetition or “too much” content that is of decent quality, realistically if you’re going to play 10 hours every day of one game you’re eventually going to get bored or end up in a very repetitious grind where addiction is the only reason you still play.
Thanks for your made up thoughts about the issue.
Perhaps with FF 14 maybe becoming competition that they might worry about they might look into the way flying is earned. If I remember they hate flying so they probably won’t ever go back to the buy it at max level deal.
While idm pathfinder a lot of people do so hopefully they will look into feedback and do something that makes both parties satisfied. Tbh I think pathfinder one should unlock flying during the X.0 content and if another zone is added in X.2 have another pathfinder.
Going into 9.0 atleast it won’t be as bad my only gripe with not having flying is being dismounted by all the unavoidable mobs and now we will have mount equipment to help deal with that. I also wouldn’t mind tabards that help with rep gains.
